    Condensate drain Soak away

Well I hope that this is not correct ... and that this is correct.... When I get around to it, I am expecting this from the fitter... https://mcalpineplumbing.com/traps/condensate-traps-and-fittings/soak1gr-soakaway which shows this....

Need to run wire through corner of wall - best approach?

Why not just drill through the wall into what ever room is behind, and then route the power supply from there?? Your SDS should easily handle the job, and a bit of trunking and a pattress box to tidy the cables. While you're drilling you could install CCTV to see who's taping up the door bell...

    Solar/UV window film... need advice

I investigated and installed some solar film a few years ago. The fridge-freezer and SWMBO's Chenin Blanc fridge in the utility room were working overtime with late afternoon solar loading. Anyhooo, I ended up rejecting using internal film as there was anecdotal evidence on the interweb of...

    Dipped doors...an idiots guide!

I got the dippers/strippers to apply a natural wax product to four pine doors a few years ago. Far less hassle for me, but not cheap IIRC. The big advantage is they can go straight back into place with minimal handling. I now just apply a liquid wax spray from time to time.

    Terminal blocks in sockets

Butt crimps? Assuming you can get the nose of the crimp tool into the space available, and you can still achieve the cable bend radius needed. https://www.screwfix.com/p/insulated-crimp-red-butt-pack-of-100/94616

Are my pipes moaning because of near-freezing or something else?

Sounds(!) like water hammer. There's not a slowly-filling cistern or similar connected on the same pipe, is there??

Removing hard 'sealant' (possibly adhesive) from uPVC window frames??

I am trying to clean some uPVC window frames, but the internal corners have been finished with something that does not seem to be silicone. It is quite hard but comes away with scratching, which I don't really want to do. Whatever it is, it is thin with no significant depth. Any thoughts on...

Metal re-inforcing in uPVC sash window - how far into corner to drill?

I assume that is the minimum recommended distance from the corner for a fixing hole. Is that correct? If so, how close is the metal to the corner weld - surely not 4"?

Metal re-inforcing in uPVC sash window - how far into corner to drill?

So, if I wanted to add sash jammers or restricters, say, how far does the metal section run into the corner (usually) to ensure the fixings locate into it? I read somewhere that during profile welding, the metal does not run all the way into the corner, which is fair enough, but how far? TIA

Raking-out perished (& glued in places) uPVC window & door gasket??

Oooo - they do look mean! Does that reverse hook get most of the action??

Raking-out perished (& glued in places) uPVC window & door gasket??

I am looking for suggestions of techniques or tools for removing old and perished bubble/flipper gasket from the narrow slot. Where the old gasket material has gone very non-flexible (mostly along the bottom edge), I have found that the barbed section just tears or snaps where it joins the...

    Difficulty Drilling Into Exterior Wall

not £100. I got a low-cost Power Craft one (from Aldi, I think?) many years ago for about £25 (it was that long ago....). I was bashing a 1" hole through a hard concrete block wall with it recently. It still seems fine, though I do try to look after it. Now I know what SDS is capable of I'd...

Can I use plastic quadrant instead of Arris on my garden shed/workshop

How about using flashband (i.e. the sticky-backed stuff) as it is only 10ft on a side. For a neater finish, you could even get creative maybe by trapping the outside edge of the flashband under the fillet, screwing the fillet onto the decking, then dressing the flashband over the...

Anyone good with "electronics" here? didn't notice a sub-forum

If I had to guess***, I'd be looking at the four switching devices already mentioned by BG. This is because these are likely to be the most stressed parts, and therefore possibly the most likely to fail. The devices mentioned by Noz might indeed have also failed, but they wouldn't be my first...

Critical choice of uPVC bubble/flipper gasket profile??

Yup - I've seen those. While a 4" sample is sufficient to check that it fits in the mounting groove, is it really enough to know 1) the door will fully close with 2) the appropriate level of sealing, with 5 metres or so on all four sides? My question was really about any differences in the...
