    How many downlights

You might want to consider a wider beam angle. For example, I have 4 like these, that I specifically chose because of the 120 degree beam angle. https://www.lightrabbit.co.uk/6-watt-frosted-led-ceiling-light-390-lumens-120mm-diameter.html in half of my kitchen, lighting up approx 4m by 4m, in...

Should I replace these 0.75mm Cables

No problem. If you can't get the cables completely out of the insulation and laid on top of it, then leave them sat on the plasterboard ceiling or clipped to the ceiling joist or wherever they currently are. In truth, they will be carrying so little current it's not an issue.

Should I replace these 0.75mm Cables

0.75mm flex is rated for 6A. Leave it be. If cable slack allows, run the insulation under the cables.

    Running a 4 kW motor

Most small industrial motors are usually wound for 230 delta, 400 star. Japan use 200V 3 phase, either 50 or 60Hz, depending on which part of the country you're in. Must use a lot of copper... Currently working on a project destined for use in both Japan and USA, and have managed to buy a...

    Running a 4 kW motor

A single phase input, 3 phase 400V output inverter is very hard, if not impossible, to find. You could try a single phase 230V input, 3 phase 230V output inverter, and run it at 230V 50Hz but your motor will be under-fluxed, low on torque. May be OK if the motor is not fully loaded, but all a...

Fitting two RCDs one after the other

Putting my functional safety hat on, which I sometimes wear at work, using diverse routes or diverse locations, as was alluded to in the aircraft analogy, is a means of reducing common cause failure. As is the use of RCD's in different locations, or different types and/or manufacturers of...

    Keeping cable in chases

How is he or she plastering the room, dot and dab or wet plastering? If its dot and dab, then no need to do anything. Wet plastering, fix with cable clips or capping or dabs of plaster. As has been already stated, remove the accessories, make the wiring safe and tuck into the back boxes so it's...

    inaccessible Junction Boxes

Nope. The regs aren't retrospective, and certainly not in this instance. Your new work, where you have cut cables, does need to be compliant.

    POTW - pointless trunking

I'm not overly happy with the three singles going through one stuffing gland. Maybe it's got one of those special inserts.....or maybe not.

Loft insulation causing mould in bedroom ceilings ??

Had the same problem in a north facing room in my own house. Part of the ceiling was sloping and uninsulated, because it was right in the eaves and impossible to get to. I removed that bit of the ceiling, insulated it properly with Celotex, reboarded with insulated plasterboard and skimmed it...

Extension lead plug getting warm? advice please?

Did you have the reel fully unwound? Should run cooler when unwound. Without knowing the power requirements of the dryer, it's hard to say if the reel is OK long term.

    What cutting pliers are these?

If by wooden noggins you mean solid bridging, it's there to reduce bounce in the floor.

    SWA bend radius

Depends on the span of the joists, 4" by 2" can span 6 ft, I believe from memory, from holidays spent working with my Dad (a builder)

    SWA bend radius

Just remind me again, what's that look like?

    SWA bend radius

16mm 3 core swa has a 130mm-ish bending radius. Not sure that's going neatly round a slightly radiussed brick tbh.

You're right, it is a Quooker tap.

Ok for electrical socket to be positioned under kitchen sink?

There is one at the place where I'm currently working...horrible, spluttery (is that even a word?) thing that inevitably spits boiling hot water onto the hand holding the cup.
