    Comprehensive or Third Party

I have seven years no claims bonus. Does that mean I would lose that if I changed to 3rd Party fire and Theft? Wouldn't that mean it would cost me nearly as much for 3rd Party? I am with Zurich by the way if that's any help, and have been for 12 years or more.

    Comprehensive or Third Party

Thank you for your prompt reply to my post. When you say the insurance would only pay me the write-off value, does that mean around the figure of £500 you quote? My car is only a Rover 214sei I don't know just yet what the difference in price would be between comprehensive and 3rd...

    Comprehensive or Third Party

My car is in immaculate condition despite being nearly 12 years old and has only done 12600 miles from brand new. For this reason I have insured it fully comprehensive up to now, but am wondering if because of its age I should change to Third Party Fire and Theft. My last premium was...

Charging a car battery by driving it

My car is normally only out of the lockup once a week to be driven a distance of about 4 miles, and invariably it is very hard to start in this weather. On more than one occasion I have to call out the AA because it wouldn't start at all. For how many miles would I have to drive the car...

Is this TRV faulty and can it be repaired?

Your prompt reply to my post is much appreciated. Luckily we have a Scottish Gas maintenance contract which I have just discovered covers this eventuality. Have just phoned them up and an engineer will be out tomorrow morning. Thank you for your time.

Is this TRV faulty and can it be repaired?

On a central heating system which is seven years old there is a TRV fitted to a bedroom radiator and even when it is turned off the radiator still gets as warm as though the TRV setting was at maximum. I think it is a good make as the system was installed by Scottish (British) Gas.

    Shutting down a radiator temporarily

I thank everybody who replied to my post. I actually thought you had to shut off the lockshield valve also when you turned a radiator off, but wanted to make sure. The flow valve hasn't leaked. It's a Myson Matchmaster installed by Scottish Gas as part of the GCH system, so it might be a...

    Shutting down a radiator temporarily

Thank you for your quick response. I take it this applies even if there is no TRV on the radiator?

    Shutting down a radiator temporarily

I want to shut down a radiator so that when I remove the glass shelf above it, the Dado rail above the shelf doesn't get warped with the heat. Please give instructions for both shutting down the radiator and putting it back on line when required the next day. A quick response would be much...

    pressure drop

I had exactly the same problem. I have a maintenance contract with Scottish Gas and they were out six times. They were out on the roof tying plastic bags to the vent pipe. (That's not really true as I am in a flat four storeys high. They checked the PRV from inside.) They changed an o ring...

how do you increase the pressure in a worcester combi boiler

If it is anything like the Worcester Bosch 24CDi RSF you take off the grid on the bottom of the boiler, insert the white T shaped key supplied into the hole at the left hand front and turn it a quarter turn until it locks, then turn the little grey knob anticlockwise which lets the water into...

Hotpoint WM76 Washing m\c screeching like a banshee

Breezer I thought you might like to know that the noise started up in the machine again, and got progressively worse to such an extent that it was on the verge of taking off through the window and sounded as though it was breaking up inside. My better half run out of the kitchen she got such a...

Hotpoint WM76 Washing m\c screeching like a banshee

Thank you very much Breezer for your help it is much appreciated. I eventually got into the sump hose, but all I could find at the bottom of it was a plastic button no bigger than a button from a set of pyjamas or similar. Could that have cause such a horrendous noise? Anyway the noise...

Hotpoint WM76 Washing m\c screeching like a banshee

Thanks to all for the replies to my post. Breezer, excuse me for seeming thick, but when you say tilt the machine at 45 degrees, would I be right in assuming that you mean to tilt it forward? When you say put the machine on its back do you mean for example tilted backwards at an angle...

Hotpoint WM76 Washing m\c screeching like a banshee

I retract the statement about the noise the machine makes. I can confirm now that it is more like bricks rattling around in a cement mixer, and I am not being facetious. Could it indeed be one of these gas struts that I am not even sure are in my machine, as I wasn't even looking for such a...

Hotpoint WM76 Washing m\c screeching like a banshee

I have a 4 - 1\2 year old Hotpoint top of the range (ha ha) washing machine that has been used less than average I would say which has recently started to make a screeching sound just as it finishes the final spin. After checking posts on here for similar problems I took the rear inspection...

Worcester Bosch 24CDI RSF needs regular topping up

I have the above named combi installed which is just over four years old, supplying five radiators. Can anybody tell me why the pressure system is starting to need topping up on a regular basis eg every month or so, whereas when it was newer the system only needed pressurising about once or...

    Smelly kitchen sink drain

There have been no changes of any kind. The kitchen plumbing has been the way it is since we got new kitchen units including sink unit etc put in about 7 years ago. the only change is a new (over a year ago) Hotpoint Ultima 1400 washing machine, but I just put the waste hose on to the same...

    Smelly kitchen sink drain

Thanks for the replies to my post. The waste pipe could certainly have more of a gradient. Whilst it may not run uphill, it certainlycould have more of a downward run before it goes vertical. I live in a council flat, 3 flights up. I will clean the overflow pipe as well. Could this smell be...
