Hot water cylinder losing heat too fast

What I can't understand is why the cut out is operating then? could that be faulty? I mean if the top gets too hot before the whole tank is hot enough and the cutout operates, It wont ever get hot then whatever I do! can I disable the cut out maybe? BTW you want to get into coding if you...

Hot water cylinder losing heat too fast

to be honest I did think that this was the most likely myself. I checked the indirect coil pipework and that is cold. leaks! well I can't think where one would be that I haven't noticed. unless its in the concrete slab I'm sure I would have noticed. And if it is in the slab god knows how...

Hot water cylinder losing heat too fast

Ah thats interesting ! Mogget also mentioned about where I was measuring the temperature. Now I don't use that thermostat any more since I added my computer control and it was difficult for me to put my temp sensor chip anywhere else but on the top outlet just 20mm above the tank. But if you...

Hot water cylinder losing heat too fast

Yes you are right there is a shower on the other side of that back wall. It looks like the shower has it's own 22mm feed down from the loft and the hot feed is 15mm it doesn't feel warm. :?

Hot water cylinder losing heat too fast

Ok thanks guys. :) firstly I don't think its a control problem as I'm a bit of a computer/electronics nerd I have built my own computer controlled heating system. which has temp sensors all over the house the flow and return and the Hot water. I also wrote the program that controls the...

Hot water cylinder losing heat too fast

Hi all I have only recently realised that my Hot water cylinder is unable to keep the water hot overnight. to be honest I'm not sure how it should perform but it seems pretty bad to me. I have a 1200x450 indirect tank insulated with 25 foam and a tank jacket on top of that. I have just...

Fitting an immersion heater to bottom of Hot water cylinder

Obviously day to day varies enormously but on a yearly basis I produce about 6000kwh and export about 4500kwh of that. I like the idea of batteries but have briefly looked into it in the past and the problems are too many and the cost of that idea ballooned out of all proportion. I already...

Fitting an immersion heater to bottom of Hot water cylinder

No problem I didn't go into detail as I didnt want to bore anyone :) a. I don't get any extra payment for dumping to the national grid so it pays me to use as much of my own production as possible. I don't have economy 7 as I don't think it would pay me. we cook electric etc and most of the...

Fitting an immersion heater to bottom of Hot water cylinder

thanks that sounds as though it might be expensive though? what I am trying to do is use excess electricity from my PV to heat as much water as possible during the day so that it will last the whole day till the next morning and only top up the top of the tank with imported electricity if...

Fitting an immersion heater to bottom of Hot water cylinder

Thanks folks my tank is 25 years old and we live in a hard water area so maybe I should buy a new one but I haven't found an indirect cylinder with fittings for two immersions yet. I hadn't thought about a longer immersion element as I have never heard of one! any ideas where I might get...

Choosing the correct Central heating Pump

They say that the lower the water temp the more efficient the Heat pump works. I found that my system without larger rads needs about 45c which is should give me a COP of 3 on average. (hopefully) ;) Oh and I will be keeping the oil boiler for just those reasons. for a few years at least.

Choosing the correct Central heating Pump

Yes I am retired and we are at home all day. I ran my heating at 40-45c all winter as a test to see if the ASHP would be able to heat the house Ok and we found it was best if we ran it 24/7 with a slight setback at night. Also we could set the stats lower as the Temps in the house were so even...
