HIKVision CCTV - fault or just a limit of motion detect?

You can set the Hikvision NVR to record permanently AND detect movement. On playback you see the movements highlighted but if that fails you can still scan between them.

Texecom SmartCom connection on both wifi and Lan cable at the same time ?

The ethernet connection and the WiFi are both connecting through the same router and broadband connection, so they will both drop if the broadband goes down. If you really want 'belt and braces', get a router that has a fallback facility to a mobile data connection. Something like this...

    First fix

Yes as I said, the splitter and modem will be fitted in the flat by Virgin Media when the user subscribes. But Openreach customers (BT etc) will need something entirely different. And if one of the smaller fibre companies covers that area, something different again. The one thing they all have...

    First fix

A single ethernet will be useless to someone who wants Virgin Media. It requires a splitter on the incoming coax feed with one coax to the modem and another coax to each video box. That will all have to be within the flat. Get the official guidelines from the ISPs.

    First fix

The service provider usually installs the one combined unit. If that is put in the meter room then another router will be needed in the flat, so that doubles up the equipment. Also it is sometimes necessary for the user to make adjustments or reset the modem which is difficult if it is locked...

    First fix

You need to provide an accessible duct from the meter room to each flat. Most flats will have a single unit comprising modem and WiFi router. The feed from the street to that unit will be different types of cable depending on the service provider and they will want to install it. If the...

    Texecom elite panic

This keypad had the label already fitted, and it came in a pack from a reliable UK source. Interesting thing is that the bit I posted was in the User Manual, but not in the Installation Manual.

    Texecom elite panic

I recently installed a 64-W system. Here's part of the User Guide, which says that the panic and fire settings are reversed for UK and non-UK devices, as I said above.

    Texecom elite panic

You've got the export version. They have different key assignments to the UK version. The Fire and Panic keys are reversed for some reason. It's in the manual.

    Activating a camera with SADP

OK, panic over. I tried what I should have done earlier. Abandoned SADP and used a browser. Chrome opened it up and away we go...

    Activating a camera with SADP

I've just replaced a Hikvision DS-2CD2042WD-I camera on an NVR, with a newer camera more suited to a particular view requirement. Since this 4Mp camera has been working perfectly since installation, I thought I could find another use for it. So I connected it to my local network, defaulted it...

Hikvision NVR vs Synology NAS with Surveillance Station

I've set up three Hikvision NVRs, and also have a couple of cameras running on my Synology NAS. On balance I prefer the NVRs as I find the Synology is rather slow when searching through recorded events. Nothing against the Synology otherwise.

    Texecom keypads

If you look down on it from above (it's mounted low down on the wall) then you get the usual LCD effect of a reverse display. The blue light is still there but the text is black instead of white.

    Texecom keypads

I'm distinctly unimpressed with the LCDLP-W screen with its LCD display. It seems you can either mount it at eye level and read the text in white, or mount it low down so that you see the text in black. Neither of which is ideal if the people using it have very different heights. Is there a...

    Texecom keypads

That's very helpful, thank you. I do like that our wired pads show the status at all times. Will have to talk with them about they will be happy with - blue keypads or wiring job.

    Texecom keypads

A friend has just visited us post-lockdown, and was interested in our Texecom alarm. They've asked if I could install one for them, and I'd be happy to do so. An all wireless system would of course be simplest, but the friends were impressed with the clarity of our wired keypads with their...
