    Stand alone auto dialer

New Virgin installations don't use a separate phone line. They provide the phone connection by VOIP through the broadband Hub. Older installations will be changed to VOIP in due course.

    Hikvision NVR Video Loss

I expect you've done the obvious check for loose power connections both externally and internally. Is there any way you can set up a test for intermittent mains drop? e.g. leave a PC running and see if it has dropped out when the NVR has failed. (Make sure the BIOS is not set for auto reboot).

    I-on40 RF Jamming

IR2030 does not apply to the whole range 500 - 1600 MHz, only to the narrow specific sub bands approved for SRDs. 500 - 1600 MHz includes TV broadcasting, cellular radio and many other services.

Be very careful buying from eBay as some of the cameras are grey imports without UK support, or even fakes. There are official suppliers for Hikvision that give full warranty and support. I have used www.cctvempire.co.uk. There are others, but get quotations because prices can vary alarmingly...

The spider web problem is not with the warmth of the source. The light attracts flying insects, and the spider makes its web where it knows the insects are.

    More CCTV Questions

The light from a camera, either IR or visible will attract spider webs that reflect the light back and spoil the picture. Better to have a white LED light to illuminate the scene but mounted away from the camera. With the better cameras you can get good colour pictures at night with a only a...

    BT Master Socket connections.

Follow that cable back to the far end, and throw it away. There must be a proper Openreach type socket to terminate the incoming line. If there isn't, fit one. Then connect a proper extension lead and socket where you want it.

    Alarm cable

If you've gone to all that trouble and expense to install a fire alarm, why do you want to save a few pounds on inferior cable that will melt in a fire?

    Number plate recognition camera

You said: "Would prefer to records to SD card as there should be minimal activations between inspection events ..." which suggests to me that this will be at a remote location. You do know that these cameras require a continuous power supply?

    Ring Doorbell and Cam

Any 2.4GHz only device will work with a dual band router, if there is sufficient field strength. In some cases it may be necessary to give the router different names (SSID) for the two bands, but that can cause problems for other devices.

    AEG Cooker CCB6761ACB Fitting query

You're right of course, flameport. From just looking at the cooker I didn't think there was going to be room under the screws, but when I got it into place and offered up the wires they did go in. I did have to twist the strands tightly first. Many thanks for your advice.

    AEG Cooker CCB6761ACB Fitting query

Thank you flameport for your drawing and explanation. It looks like that is using solid 6mm wires (6242B). But in this case the cable tail from the wall switch is stranded (6242Y). When I loosened a screw on this new cooker there didn't seem room under the screw head to fit all seven strands...

    AEG Cooker CCB6761ACB Fitting query

I know exactly which terminals to use. The instructions are quite clear. From a simple inspection of the terminal strip, it's pretty clear there is not room under the screw heads to fit the existing 6mm cables without spilling out the sides. The wires are just too thick. It looks as if a...
