why is there a link wire between the = & TA when the internal timer is used, but not when the Digitstat is used?

Could the PCB be not earth correctly. Not sure if this is a stupid suggestion? Is it possible to test earthing if this is possible with a multimeter?

Yes the clock currently works. I figured simply connecting 1&2 to the existing = & TA leaving the link between = & first TA would be fine. The current timer is a 2 wire system, as this Digistat appears to be.
