How to clear blocked cast iron downpipe - can I drill an access hole in the bottom and stick a drain rod up?

The main downpipe on the front elevation of my house seems to be at least partially blocked - we often get a drip overflowing from the gutter and we can see that the gutter is full to the brim with water when peering out of the roof velux window. I don't have a ladder tall enough to get to it...

Any reason why I have suspended timber floors throughout, except for kitchen which is concrete?

Just wondering about the above question. A friend across the road has the same situation and reckoned it was something to do with lead pipes. Or is it just because they felt like doing it that way when they built it? 1940s build.

Water hammer whenever any cold tap is turned off

Thanks for the very helpful replies. Reading a bit more, I see that you can get dynamic (i.e. D04) and drop tight/static (i.e. D05) PRVs, whereby the dynamic valves will drift back to the full mains pressure when all taps are closed. My house has an open vented F+E system - does it matter...

Water hammer whenever any cold tap is turned off

I'm trying to find a solution for a water hammer in my cold pipes. I get a bang every time a cold tap is turned off quickly (washing machine included). If the tap is turned off very slowly, I don't get the hammer. Suggestions I get being when there is nothing running at all. Interestingly(?)...

What on earth could be going on here in this light switch?

It's making a bit more sense now. The left switch does the 1 way front door external light correctly, the right hand switch does the 2 way hall light correctly, and I've now inserted the loose red into the middle L2 as suggested. Now, when I flick the middle switch off, the PIR garage light...

What on earth could be going on here in this light switch?

Sorry and what I should've added is that the 2 outdoor lights seem to variously get stuck on and off depending on what combination of switches are used. The 2 way switch for the hall lights works correctly.

What on earth could be going on here in this light switch?

I'm in the process of fixing all the 2 way switch wiring which was entirely incorrectly wired by previous owner. I've now made it to this triple switch by the front door. Looking at the switch straight on, I believe it should be (left to right), front door external light, garage external light...

Myson Kickspace plinth heater fuse keeps blowing whenever it comes up to temperature

That's an interesting observation... I've labelled the wiring in the attached photo. For reference, the red arrows correspond to the fan selector switch and the yellow arrows correspond to the summer/winter switch. It looks like connectors (b) and (d) are swapped! In its current configuration...

Myson Kickspace plinth heater fuse keeps blowing whenever it comes up to temperature

The heater I mentioned in the original post is a hydronic heater. The only electrical bit is the fan and this only requires a 3A fuse, as specified in the installation instructions.

Myson Kickspace plinth heater fuse keeps blowing whenever it comes up to temperature

I've just installed a new Myson Kickspace 600 plinth heater. The heating side of it is working fine - gets good and hot throughout all the pipes. In terms of the electrical connection, it works fine before I turn the heating on. In Summer mode, the fan switches on successfully. However, after a...
