    Thanks for your reply @JohnD on further inspection there is a paper covering, it’s brown behind that too! The woodchip looks to be as old as the house, most of it was easy to get off but there’s a little bit to go. There was tape on the joints but it came off with the paper. I’ll get a plasterer...
