One ethernet port / socket failed

Yes very common for them to fail especially if they are a cheap or unbranded RJ45 socket module, it's almost always an issue with the pins. Over time with something plugged in the pins loose their springy-ness, it'll work fine until it's disturbed or you disconnect the cable and connect...

This one is super quiet based on personal experience: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/CM2781.html

    Hikvision setup equipment

I'd setup the DVR at the TV location first then move it to under the stairs where you can tweak things via its network connection. Far easier than dragging the TV into the hall!

    Bodge a pyro connection

Hmm i had a feeling it wouldn't be that easy, what's the other end of the pyro like, is it still terminated and in good condition? If yes I would find a local electrician who can terminate pyro (it's not a DIY job) who can first test the cable to make sure it's still good and worth repairing...

    Bodge a pyro connection

Can you not remove the Pyro and run a new cable along the same route or is that not possible/ideal?

    Oven power is off :-(

The red switch on the left for the oven appears to be a different brand to the one on the right, probably insignificant but could point to it having been replaced previously. I'd turn the power off, open up the switch and check for any loose connections behind, socket for the warming draw is...

    Another youtube electrician

Check out the exposed terminal screws on the consumer unit at 2:50! o_O he doesn't seem to notice them or do anything about it. This guy and LA Sparks are the worst two electricians i know on youtube, their standard of work is just dreadful and at times dangerous too!

Plastic bit on pull cord switches is for insulation/saftey reasons?

I always thought they were designed to be a deliberate weak point and break if a child got caught up in the cord?

    Texecom Alarm with Quad PIR’s

I have those Pyronix sensors in my sheds and occasionally get a false alarm in really hot weather. I changed the zones to double knock shortly after the system was installed and the problem went away, had another false activation recently though so I’ll check the sensitivity option on mine too.

Tha old 2 way switching Chestnut

You gotta love the customers “it’s always worked until now and no recent work has been carried out“ as you remove the clearly new-ish ceiling light and find all reds/browns to the L terminal and all blacks/blues to the N terminal. Yeh sure it always worked lol!

What is going on with this switch wiring?

I missed the bit about them being riveted sorry, I can picture the ones you mean but they’ve been confined to history in my memory and google image searches aren’t helping either lol!

What is going on with this switch wiring?

That design looks like an old MK switch to me. Flameport has covered them on his website.

What is going on with this switch wiring?

Sunray's drawing is how i believe its wired, however the feed could come in via either ceiling rose.

What is going on with this switch wiring?

There is quite clearly 2 x T&E entering the bottom of the upstairs switch box, I think it’s fairly safe to assume they come from the floor space. Jordan even said in the video that one was connected as the feed to the rose via the 3C&E. The landing light could have been wired as part of the...

What is going on with this switch wiring?

A borrowed neutral was never mentioned in the video, for all we know the hallway light was incorporated into the upstairs lighting circuit to avoid that problem when the circuit was wired, or the house lights are all on one circuit. However it’s been wired it doesn’t look like there have been...

What is going on with this switch wiring?

The way it looks wired to me is 2 x T&E coming up to the landing switch, one is the strappers for the landing light that connect to the switch and the other is the feed for the upstairs lights which connect to two cores of the 3C&E going up to the rose with the third connected to the switch...

    External floodlight

Sounds to me like the extra 'earth' is in fact a yellow core that links the switched live of the two PIR's together, you've likely created a dead short at the new light which is why the fuses are blowing, we need to see a picture of the new floodlight wiring and as we don't know how the old one...

    32amp hot tub wiring

Water + Electricity = Use a qualified electrician! By all means lay the cable yourself in agreement with your electrician but as for all the other questions you asked, you don't need to know the answers as your electrician will deal with all of that (y)

Advice on a spur socket off the ring main

I probably should have stated For anyone reading this in the future that taking a spur from a spur is not allowed under the current regs and far as I know it never actually was. That old book is a Hone owners guide and no regs are quoted anywhere in it.

Advice on a spur socket off the ring main

I have an old Home Electrics book of my Dad's that I used to read all the time when I was younger and fascinated by electrics. I distinctly recall it stating that you could take an unfused spur to 2 x single sockets or 1 x double socket, I've just dug it out and attached some pics. No regs are...
