    What's going on here?

Not entirely true, i remember being able to buy BT or 'Telecom' as they were branded then, phone extension kits with the 'T' logo on the sockets, i fitted a fair few of them myself (i feel old now).

    Strange Florescent Light Problem

Are you absolutely sure your buying the right wattage tube as you can get the large ones in two wattages, 40 and 60watts. Read what it says on the ballast and make sure it's the right wattage your using, same goes for the starter too.

    Cooker DP switch tripping RCD

Mine used to do exactly the same, changed the switch and it solved the problem. No reason electrically why it would trip the RCD but it did, gremlins!

    is this for telephones??

I agree with plugwash, the TV's in the show house may have been connected to screen some sort of presentation for the developer from a central source in another show house or the site sales office? We moved into an ex show house years ago and it was wired up for speakers in every room that...

    Picture of the week!™

We have them dotted around the older parts of our buildings at work, most are unused but I've seen some used as the power source for various things....wall mounted powered speakers, data projector, wall mounted tv, the one in our office gets used for the Christmas tree lights lol!

Who owns the meter->isolator tails and isolator?

Can you post a pic? Sounds like what you’re thinking is the meter may be the eco7 timer/teleswitch and the rectangle was the actual meter? Whatever may be missing you need to contact a supplier to arrange for a new connection, you shouldn’t need to involve the DNO if a supply is already...

Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies, sorta confirmed what i was thinking that being as 100volts could be present then double insulated it should be. Chri5 - The cabling is mostly in tray/basket and then just bobs across the false ceiling to each speaker from this. Bernard - Thanks for the...

    lights not working

Most likely one of the bulbs has blown and its killed the dimmer switch, if you dont need it just replace with a normal two way switch.

    Lights, Camera - No Action

Hang on a sec you said something i want to clarify, how many RED/BLACK cables do you have at the light, two red and two black or one of each?

What do you think this might be?

Probably supply to next door, quite common in terraced and semi-detatched properties. Looks a bit rough though and is that exposed copper at the top of the fuse on the far left? (dont touch it). If it were me i'd get the DNO out to give it the once over.

    Dimmer switch blowing out!

Sounds like you've made the classic mistake of wiring the light switch accross the live & neautral causing a dead short. How did you wire the lights up when you replaced them, did you just wire all reds/browns to live and all blacks/blues to neautral ?

power surge wrecked Sky box or TV through HDMI splitter?

What about if you just connect the tv in the kitchen directly to the sky box, does everything work ok then? If it does then it's looking like your 50" is defunct :(

    DESPERATE HELP NEEDED!

Your lights don't work as they are each connected one after the other from the fuse box, the one you are changing is probably the first on the circuit which is why none of the others work, they will not work until you reconnect the wiring to the new fitting.

Those transformers are not submersible, can you give a bit more detail how you have installed the lights and transformers?

    Very old henley fuse box

Hi Guys, I’ve been looking into tenement buildings in Scotland more out of curiosity than anything else and it’s thrown up some useful information. In Scotland there is a "Tenements (Scotland) Act 2004" which covers who is responsible for things such as communal areas etc. apologies to anyone...
