    Phone number

When I was living in Sweden (long long ago) I had occasion to call the police from a call box. Vandals had ripped off the dial, so I used the tapping method. In Sweden you just had to remember to add one to each pulse train because their dials started at 0.

A pastiche I read at the time insisted that GPO would henceforth be known as 470.

    RCD Required?

The regulations refer to a cable 'concealed in a wall or partition'. They don't mention floors or ceilings. I have always taken such cables to be exempt from the need for an RCD.

    RCD Required?

Is the twin and earth buried? I think EFLI went over this already. Also I wonder why the SWA cannot reach the CU. Is that because it got cut off too short?

Ring main or Radial for sockets in extension?

OP - don't let Winnie put you off. If you want to use Fused Connection Units then do it. The useful part is the double pole switch and there are good reasons for having one accessible.

It is advisable that they can be isolated with a double pole switch in case they fill with water and trip your RCD. You will need the RCD.

Can I use my existing phone socket for ethernet connection?

I did something similar (master socket from eBay). Sometime after, BT had to upgrade the socket (I think because of FTTC) and the guy took one look at it and said: "That's a tidy installation - I'm impressed."

    Smart Meters.....Again

It's annoying when they imply that you have no option. My response so far has been to shred such communications. I guess they will win eventually but I won't make it easy for them. Having said that there are also people trying desperately to get a smart meter and get on these tariffs and not...

    Choosing an Extending Ladder

Well yes, but I was just searching for extension ladders and then looking at the pictures for ropes. Didn't think of the key-word 'rope operated'! Thanks!

    Choosing an Extending Ladder

I have a 2-section aluminium extending ladder that extends to 7.5m. It has wheels to run it up the wall and a pull string to raise it, so it can all be done by one person with the ladder starting upright. However it has been stored in the garden too long and has reached end of life. I have been...
