    Garden drainage

Blimey - hoping that's not all for behind the wall... dare I ask the size of this wall?

boundary dispute - Garden party wall and fence

But if the wall is entirely on his land, doesn't that mean it isn't a 'party wall' and he has every right to destroy it as he wishes (as long as he doesn't damage your property in the process). Why it is his responsibility alone to build the fence? Usually a fence is paid for jointly by both...

    Garden drainage

Then if you lay the field drain well you shouldn't be needing weep holes. Happy days :D

    Garden drainage

Will your perforated pipe drain to anywhere? If not then it wont serve much purpose and weep holes wound definitely be required. What will you have in front of the wall? If its a patio then you won't want puddles from the weep holes. Larger holes are better to prevent blockages forming. Paving...

boundary dispute - Garden party wall and fence

I don't know the legalities, but it appears the existing wall has always been on his side of the boundary, and doubt that (just because its been there 10 years) you can claim that it now determines the boundary. To be honest, if my neighbour offered to pay for/build a new fence then I'd be happy...

How many days will i need a mini digger and driver for

Time taken will depend on the size of the digger and proximity of truck/skip on/into which it is dropping the spoil - both of which are dependent on site access. You might be limited to a micro-digger that can fit through your garden gate, or perhaps no problem getting a 3 ton digger and truck...

Patio on sloped garden (left to right)

You could drive in stakes and build a formwork timber frame into which you pour the concrete, then remove once the concrete has cured. However, if the base is exposed and above ground the finished article wont look very pretty. I'd consider digging deeper around the perimeter and setting slabs...

Replacing fence posts set in wall

Is it an option to drive long/slim wedges down to steady/secure the posts?

Fence installation - what do you think?

I used to have that arrangement and a storm blew the fence, causing the wall to fail. Granted my fence was taller and this hopefully wont be an issue if your fence is only 2 feet high

What to use under my deck?

You need to make sure it’s something no plant can grow in. Pea gravel is good. Ballast may just hold enough organically and moisture for weeds to take hold. I’d go big size as once weeds take hold under a deck it’s a pain in the a***

Building oak sleeper retaining wall - is this a correct way?

No - literally just sit the blocks on top of each-other and they have a lip that hooks over the back of the block below that provides the strength. Mine is made by Tobermore but a few manufacturers do equivalents. Probably a bit more pricey than sleepers mind

Building oak sleeper retaining wall - is this a correct way?

I've seen sleeper wall designs where holes are drilled vertically down through all sleepers into which steel rods are placed and filled with cement thereby holding the whole wall together (edit - found and added the link below). The bottom sleepers need to be well anchored. Drainage could be...

    4 x patio questions

First three sound like a decent professional job. I have done similar to point 4, with a 6 inch wide gully adjacent to the house (OK its closer to 5 inches but was meant to be 6), leaving it at the same depth as the original ground level (which is presumably well below the DPC). This meant...

    DIY Sprinkler system

Perhaps get in touch with the head greenkeeper at your local golf club - they should know a bit about such systems and maybe point you towards suppliers etc. The guy at my local club was really great when I asked him about drainage - and I'm not a golfer or member

    Laying new lawn

Ouch - sounds like a brutal job. Maybe list the pavers for free on Gumtree (buyer uplifts). It’s amazing what folk will take (I once advertised half a climbing frame and someone took it!). Maybe the skip can be placed around the back? Yes the 100mm is compacted I’m afraid

    Laying new lawn

You need around 100mm of topsoil to grow and maintain a lawn. Are there any weeds grown through the stones at present? Judging from what you've stated, might it be an option to kill any weeds and remove the large pavers then just build up from there? Maybe dig a few holes around the garden to...

    Shed cladding options

Hi Neil. What are your plans for the roof and rainwater run off? If the shed extends to the fence you might upset the neighbour if it runs off over to their side. Material-wise, go with the best you can afford and give it a few coats of proofing before you build, as you’ll never be able to...

How do I access the cistern?

Yes this rubber washer is also gubbed with silicone. I think its time to replace the cistern and pipe with something better along with new rubber... Any recommendations for the best manufacturer or are they all much the same (except Geberit which definitely get a swerve)?

How do I access the cistern?

Hah - the plot thickens - I just checked the back of the bowl and the fitter did a weird thing by connecting another length of pipe (perhaps he cut it too short in the first instance) so I only disconnected the first length! Photos from my camera to follow in the next post... (sorry!)
