You need to turn both screwdriver slotted valves to fill the boiler back up

Has the receiver got a power supply or have you just wired 2 wires to it?

Stat should already be paired and yes the link on the boiler to be removed, it actually shows you how to wire next to the terminal strip on the boiler

What boiler have you got? On a pressurised system i never touch isolation valves apart from new boilers as when pressure is released an open end wont leak water

What stat have you got? Salus? Pic may help

Measure temp at tap, the display on boiler shows internal boiler temp not hw delivery temp

Wont fix your problem of banging, probably a duff pump they tend to cut out every now and again causing overheat, hope you know how to check the boiler wont kill you when you put it back together
