Hooray. :D Yes, Call for heating and press the switch and the boiler fires - but can I clarify that I have to wedge the switch down as the boiler will just go out.

I have undone and removed the large screw on the front off the pump. I have pressed the button to start the boiler and can tell that the pump is spinning as it should until the clicking and whiring stops and the pump stops as well.

Nope, thats correct. Left green light flashes steadly until button is pressed and then the right one flashes as well. Cicking and whiring stops, right green light goes out , red comes on and stays on and left green light carries on flashing. When the hot water is running the green lights...

Hey Tony. Right. Press grey button to fire up boiler - both green lights flash steady at same time and then go out and red light in middle comes on. Run hot water - red light flash steady but alternate with each other and then red light comes on when water turned off.

I didnt have to go near the fan before as I believe this to be at the top right hand corner of the boiler (under the cover as you say) and the heat exchanger is at the back at the bottom. But it still doesn't help as I don't know if the fan is at fault.
