Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Ok thanks I definitely won't be poking about in there then!! I'll get plumber to cut out and replace section. Thanks

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

That's an interesting idea, though looking at it I would not only need to remove the pump but also the right hand gate valve, I would then have good access to the vent/ feed junction and would be able to dislodge the blockage with a screwdriver and potentially suck it out with vac. Does this...

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Yes I will do this, thanks

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

As previous poster suggested I'll get some X400 in the system and leave it there for a while until I can organise plumber and if that doesn't sort the problem , I'll get the junction section replaced, and if that doesn't fix perhaps link the feed to the vent, as per earlier discussion. Thanks...

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Just to confirm gate valves were fully open and had been backed off 1/4 turn, so all good there. Its pointing to the crud build up in the feed pipe junction isn't it, as advised by Madrab?

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Just to double check, the gate valves are the two valves either side of the pump? Thanks

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Well with the old pump I had 4 rads that would not get hot and one was permanently cold, (I did take these off a few months ago and blast them through in the garden with a few whacks with a rubber mallet, but no difference); with the new pump, all rads are hot so I'm assuming that's a step...

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Here is a pic of the pump, hopefully you can see the arrow pointing towards you with the feed and then the vent in the background

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Ok I can do that, how long can i safely leave the x400 in the system for? Thanks

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Appreciate all the advice given, some of the discussion is somewhat over my head. There is definitely magnetic attraction at the vent / feed junction so replacing that section is probably a good place to start ( not by me though!!) I've just been in the loft and emptied the F&e tank and gave...

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Sorry chaps, just to clarify,I did make an error which I explained earlier today. The pump direction is away from vent and feed and not towards it as I first suggested, sorry for the confusion caused. So it appears flow direction is correct, it's just the case of what is now causing the...

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Yes the ABV pipe connects up with the return pipe and goes into back of boiler Dont think the overpump is normal, can actually hear it standing under the loft hatch. Steam coming off the water in the f&e tank which cant be good for the loft space let alone anything else I would have thought...

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Or do I need to get the feed / vent junction cut out and replaced with new, theres definitely some magnetic attraction there.

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

The vent pipe is definitely more than 2 metres, going from ground floor into loft space. Speed setting is on 1.when heating on, hot water is going into f&e tank I've been up there watching it not a lot at setting 1 but enough for the water in the tank to be hot. Now that I've confirmed the...

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Sorry guys I've been a ****, could have sworn the arrow on pump was pointing towards vent, just gone in there again with torch and glasses and arrow is towards ABV ie flowing away from vent. Sorry about that, feel stupid!

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Ok thanks, I think drawing out the system will take a while, pipes seem to go everywhere... Surprised about the plumber I used , top google reviews, 10/10 checkatrade and an accredited Worcester Bosch installer...

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Ok so set the ABV to mid point. Are you saying that pump should be flipped so pump flow is towards the ABV, and not towards vent? Thanks

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Hi pump arrow pointing towards vent and feed. ABV was set at max, when I spoke phoned plumber about the overpump issue he told me to set it to min to see if that fixed the problem, should I set this to a midpoint position? Thanks

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

In reference to blue loos comment re pump. It did sound terrible and could wake us up when the heating came on in the morning, noise seemed to reverberate through the pipework. Cannot hear the new pump at all. Perhaps the old pump did just needs clean, but I went with the plumbers recommendation...

Hot water flowing from vent pipe into loft tank

Hi yes the 2 vertical pipes in pic 1 are labelled heat and hot water, both have motorised valves on them. The vent and feed can be seen in pic 2 right of pump and look like they go down and into back of boiler, just out of shot, which I'm standing right in front of.
