    Vaillant 438 with 3 zones, frequent S53

The 438 was probably there or thereabout when it was put in, because the house was an old cold 1930s 5 bed room with solid walls and there was no loft insulation. I think it's clear that the pipework sizing was wrong and the pump is too small. The pipework now is slightly better but the pump is...

    Vaillant 438 with 3 zones, frequent S53

My 438 was installed in 2010. The 38KW boiler would have been fine if we had used the original radiators and did all the house extensions we had planned to using radiators. Instead we actually landed up changing all the radiators to bigger ones and 75% of the downstairs got converted to UFH...

    Vaillant 438 with 3 zones, frequent S53

Oh, so you did have the new PCB too, not just the new pump. How did you go about finding a 'new' PCB, if the part number for both were apparently the same?

    Vaillant 438 with 3 zones, frequent S53

That is good to know. I too have a 438 boiler that was fitted incorrectly by an installer (yes he was Gas Safe registered, before someone asks!). It too suffered from the S53 and it is too big for the house. Initially it was fitted with 22mm tails and we needed to wind the boiler all the way...

    Vaillant 438 with 3 zones, frequent S53

I realise that this thread is really old. But how did @fezster fix this issue in the end? And what was the end result. Were you able to run the boiler at it's full 38Kw?

Vaillant ecotec plus 438 droning vibration noises

I was reminded several times on here that I am not in the inner circle.

Vaillant ecotec plus 438 droning vibration noises

There are several things that I am monitoring. The actual boiler stats are monitored via the boiler eBUS, via an interface that I built myself. Currently I monitor flow, return, target flow temp, flame status and boiler trigger. The actual heat demands are measured by sniffing the Evohome system...

Vaillant ecotec plus 438 droning vibration noises

Nope, for no confusion at all. I use a Honeywell Opentherm bridge as part of an Evohome set.

Vaillant ecotec plus 438 droning vibration noises

A nice RGI came around yesterday and serviced the boiler. Tested the combustion settings and amended them for both high and low boiler settings. He was quite complimentary of the system and the way it had been installed. This was quite refreshing and encouraging too because all other service...

I've got an RGI now coming tomorrow to service and set boiler. Thanks all.

That is brilliant. How do we make contact to take this forward. I can't access your profile page to send you a message.

Vaillant ecotec plus 438 droning vibration noises

I get it...you guys think I am trying to do this myself. And I am NOT. I am simply trying to find information I can give my RGI engineer. Alternatively if anyone on here can get to me in Watford and do the settings needed as part of a boiler service, that would be fine too.

Vaillant ecotec plus 438 droning vibration noises

I have stood next to the engineer every year when they have done the service. And yes I am aware of the difference between throttle (anti clockwise) and offset (clockwise) turns. In fact it was a joint effort last year between me and the plumber to get rid of the droning noise. So fully aware of...

Vaillant ecotec plus 438 droning vibration noises

When Vaillant did the last service they left with the following readings, which was done using the P1 programme. No service prior to the one done in 2016 was ever done using the P2 programme. But even with this the droning noise didn't go away. Last year 2016, the guy who did the service...

Vaillant ecotec plus 438 droning vibration noises

Point taken Tony about the regular service. And as mentioned my boiler has been serviced annually every year and will continue to do so. I needed to know if a gas valve that needs adjustment twice within a year is a sign of a failing valve or not. And is adjusting the gas valve considered repair...

Vaillant ecotec plus 438 droning vibration noises

I am not even suggesting that I will attempt this myself. The boiler is 7 years old and has been serviced every year since new. For the first 4 years there was no droning noise. Vailliant do the service and had already derated the boiler to 28KW. But the problem was that the service is always...

Vaillant ecotec plus 438 droning vibration noises

Last April, the droning was cured by adjusting the gas valve at minimum burner. So almost about a year later after the adjustment was carried out to stop the boiler from droning, it has returned again. It worked fine through the winter. First question, why would the adjustment be needed so...

Vaillant ecotec plus 438 droning vibration noises

Coming up to the second winter with this intermittent droning vibration noise from our Vaillant ecotec plus 438 boiler. Besides this noise it works fine and heats everything up nicely. It doesn't happen all the time and anytime I call a plumber it never happens! Whenever I have seen this it...
