No heating or hot water with radiators removed.

As JohnD said, photos. Just out of curiosity, are you sure you had lockshield valves on both ends of the rad? Are you sure this is not some kind of hodgepodge 1 pipe heating system? Do you normally get hot water in the summer with the immersion only?

What are the general rules when tradesman asks for a deposit?

I charge for all materials above £500 up front. Like the consumer, we get knocked too as well. Check the terms of the contract, if it all goes south then you have to go to small claims and if the contract is pants, you can wave your money goodbye - Can you pay via a credit card? This is...

New combi boiler to fit, pipe work size confirmation & manifold question

So yes, I have seen several houses with centralised manifolds for the heating rads where every rad has a dedicated flow and return to the manifold by the boiler... Nothing wrong with it, just remember that it is a huge waste of pipe, you'd be better off supplying each floor in 22 at least and...

Venting a boiler into a street

Look up and down the road... Has anyone else done it? Where I work there are certain streets that have preservation orders that prevent any alterations to the front facade of the building. In most cases it is fine, but if you notice a severe lack of flues at the front of properties, contact your...

    Removing radiator

I would strongly advise you remove the rad and the pipework to prevent any "accidents" from happening.

Boiler constantly on. What am I doing wrong ?

Get a heating engineer to pop out and take a look - If nothing else, if you've moved into a new house, a gas safety check is a good investment and a boiler service will at least give you a rough idea of how much life is left in the old girl... At the same time get them to run you through the...

    Gas exams?

The advice here regarding ACS is spot on,my question goes to the roots, my opinion is that if he's already with a good RGI then he's made the best possible leap, if the RGI is good and growing his/her business then he/she would surely be happy to sponsor the SIL when they feel the SIL is ready...

    Nest Learning Thermostat Help Required.

The question is simple: Do you want to put your nest thermostat on a stand or on the wall? Remember, nest uses an algorithm to determine where it is in the home and as such, you don't want to be moving it about a lot - Afterall, that 's why you have the app on your phone. On the Stand Then the...

    Hive & Danfoss-230L

Are you fitting the single channel or double channel version of Hive? As they are wired differently. Likewise, you never mentioned anything about what boiler or system. I'm guessing the info you need it below: THE BELOW IS TECHNICALLY FOR COMBI WIRING ONLY Hive Single Channel L&N stay the...

Boiler temp increase/HW channel trips RCD

I'd put my money on your pump, as it gets hot, the windings are pulling apart and earthing. How old is the pump? It could also be a miriad of boiler issues (condense backing up and it leaking into something, internal thermostat shorting) but my experience always points to pumps for RCDs and time...

    Vaillant VRT50 Room Thermostat

Should work fine, you need to wire the existing Horstmann into 3&4 on the boiler PCB, and then the VRT50 stat into the eBus. Manual (page 3) states that 3&4 need to be linked.... As such, if the clock breaks the 3&4 connection, heating should stay off. Good luck.

    Nest Installation - Honeywell

You probably have this sussed now, but for those reading, the easiest way to identify the cable cores going to the room stat are to identify the heating zone valve, follow the cable into the wiring centre, the brown core will often connect to one side of the room stat. You can normally then...
