Algae forming on 6 month old Indian Stone with Rompox Easy

Yes use another jointing compound or even sand and cement. The alternative is to drop the bedding mix strength way leaner to make it more porous. Something like 8:1.

Algae forming on 6 month old Indian Stone with Rompox Easy

To be honest lifting and relaying on a full bed is the only definite fix. You can try grinding out the pointing and pouring a mortar slurry into the open joints but its penetration will be patchy at best. Sealing will help keep it cleaner but most paving needs a couple of treatments per year. I...

Algae forming on 6 month old Indian Stone with Rompox Easy

Yes the halo effect is because they are spot bedded. It's a classic case unfortunately for you. The dark spots don't dry out as the mortar stays damp. The light spots dry out fast as there is a void underneath. The rompox is green because it stays constantly damp as it's a porous product laid...

Carrying branches and stuff on roof and not damaging paintwork?

If your doing it every month buy a small trailer. Bungees are not a safe way to attach those bags to roof bars. You must use ratchett straps at the very least.

How to cut the top of a hedge?

A tripod ladder or tower are best but as Mike says lashing a plank to the ladder to stop it sinking into the hedge is better than just the ladder alone. Peg in the base of your ladder so you don't lift the feet when leaning over the top of the ladder.

    Tree stumps

If they are bigger than about 14" diameter hire a stump grinder. Digging out stumps is one of the most frustrating and exhausting tasks you will ever do in a garden. Smaller than 14" it's worth a try but prepare for all out war. Man vs stump

    Log cabin floor ventilation

Yep the floor type you describe is the norm for sheds and summer houses but larger and more expensive garden rooms and cabins are often done as you would a proper timber frame building. This seems to be what you have where the walls are attached to a sole plates (the perimeter 3x2). The...

    Log cabin floor ventilation

I've re-read and I think you were expecting the building to have a floor like a shed of say 3x2 joists and 18mm boards on top. But actually what you've got is simply walls and a roof with no floor but just timber sole plates under each wall? Is that right?

    Log cabin floor ventilation

To be honest it's hard to work out what your on about. The word bearers is so many times it make it confusing, to me at least " They insist paralell bearers won't be able to support the building" It's hard to know what this refers to? Perhaps you could do a quick sketch or a photo? Having no...

    Paving Slabs Joints

His flags have been laid tight jointed with 1-2mm joints. Kiln dried sand as you suggest is no good for joints larger than about 4mm

    Paving Slabs Joints

Kiln dried sand is often used on small format flags like 450x450 or smaller. It's a perfectly acceptable joint for 1-2mm joints when using flexible bedding like compacted screeded sand. A rigid flag laid on sand and cement and jointed with mortar is Superior and require less maintenance but the...

11 foot steel post in concrete ?

A post hole needs to be firm undisturbed ground. You must not backfill anything other than concrete or rubble mixed in with the concrete. If the ground is very loose you need to compensate with sheer mass of concrete to make the post stronger. You don't really need the bolts if the post is...

    Paving Slabs Cleaning

The stuff on the cut flags against the wall is dust from cutting. Once wet it forms a residue that needs either a light pressure washing or a good stiff brush and hosing to shift it. The general boot marks also look like they walked in cutting dust from where they were grinding. The obvious...

    Paving Slabs Joints

Has he jointed them already and left you extra to top it up after cleaning? If he hasn't jointed them at all tell him to come and finish his job. It must be really dry to joint with kiln dry sand. At this time of year that's difficult. You want to sweep it in after 2/3 dry days in a row. It...

    Using a chainsaw

There is no minor chainsaw accident, you're either seriously injured or killed. One of the 3 killed in ireland during the recent storm was a punter trying to clear a fallen tree. Whilst i agree with john and would never recommend someone to just give it a go it comes down to the use. Most...
