    Dust allergy during building work?

Lol, true. That's a really good idea - will give it a whirl if I can find one :) Tried it - longer handle honestly didn't help. True, this is a good idea for a broom. I was using a dustpan and brush so it didn't take much to get it soggy in the sink.

Do I need to connect this earth, please?

Hiya, thank you for reading this. I have a light switch in the cupboard under the stairs of our house. It is a 3-gang switch. The nearest gang turned the kitchen light on and off (now disconnected). The middle gang turns the outside light on and off. The far gang turns the light in the...

    Dust allergy during building work?

I've been taking bonding off various walls and have knocked down several walls in my house and it was all very dusty. I almost coughed up a lung with the bonding dust - horrible stuff! The polythene sheet idea to cover doorways (without doors) worked well as did closing every door in the house...

My electrician has confused me about how to wire a light switch - please can someone have a go at explaining what he's saying?

Thank you so much for explaining the earth situation - I really appreciate it :-) It's fascinating stuff!

Got a question about bottlenecks, please!

Hiya, thanks for reading this. I'm confused about something a plumber has suggested. He was replacing a radiator for me. He suggested by text that, as part of the radiator replacement, he could swap the 10mm central heating pipe currently supplying the radiator to 15mm pipework. I liked the...

My electrician has confused me about how to wire a light switch - please can someone have a go at explaining what he's saying?

So it's more just a "might as well" put them together rather than it'll break the continuity? I think I've sussed it - I wonder if there was some confusion because the electrician had to colleagues working with him, one of whom was doing the daisy-chain and he's also the chap who did the...

My electrician has confused me about how to wire a light switch - please can someone have a go at explaining what he's saying?

Yeah, the electrician has wired the downstairs hall light like that - I'm presuming it makes for smaller bore holes, less cable throughout the circuit and fewer wires into the light fitting? All the DIY videos and articles on light switch wiring seem to just show the other way to wire lights up...

My electrician has confused me about how to wire a light switch - please can someone have a go at explaining what he's saying?

So with a one-gang, the continuity is maintained through the light fitting... But then how come that's not the case with a 2-gang switch?

My electrician has confused me about how to wire a light switch - please can someone have a go at explaining what he's saying?

No worries, I really appreciate you coming back to me this late at night!! My brain always locks on to these sorts of questions right before I should be sleeping - maybe I should be researching that problem instead of the Mystery of The Continuous Earth!!

My electrician has confused me about how to wire a light switch - please can someone have a go at explaining what he's saying?

Thank you - that answers my question in terms of the practical side of things and I'll stop worrying But I'm now just curious, how is the earth kept continuous with the one-gangs? He's pretty much doing everything but we're renovating so switches are coming on and off walls so I can plaster etc.

My electrician has confused me about how to wire a light switch - please can someone have a go at explaining what he's saying?

Thank you for this! So, nearly all the light switches (all white plastic, no metal) that I've connected myself have all been one-gang switches with one length of t&e 1.5 cable going to them via a plastic dry lining pattress box from the light fitting. Line/brown wire to COM, blue switched live...

Am I being unreasonable asking my electrician for this information?

... Oh, and taking photos is a brilliant idea. (*Throws head back, pulls on hair and cries "why didn't I think of that!!?*) I'm still frustrated but at least I know what to do to in order not be in this position in the future. Thanks ericmark!! I appreciate it :-)

Am I being unreasonable asking my electrician for this information?

Thank you for your quick response and all the info. I'd definitely have paid for a plan to not be in this situation now!! I'll take your advice going forward and ensure that a plan is part of any future work. How depressing. I'll mentally brace myself to start pulling the ceilings down then.

Am I being unreasonable asking my electrician for this information?

Please can an electrician tell me if I'm making an unreasonable request? I had an electrician come and install a new ring main around my kitchen. I want to know where the ring main cables are installed. The electrician’s boss is saying the electrician who did the install is too busy to tell me...

After some conduit advice, please :-)

He will if I add new circuits down the line, yes. But at the moment, I just want to run the cables for my current circuits through the trunking so I can insulate around them. I also want to make the cupboard fire safe and various other things, but I can't do that until I have any trunking in...

After some conduit advice, please :-)

Thank you, Taylortwocities, I really appreciate your advice. The trunking comes in the following sizes: 50 x 50 75 x 50 75 x 75 100 x 50 100 x 100 Please could someone tell me, would I need two lots of trunking to fit all those cables in or will one of those do it? And what size of trunking...
