Wiring up a night heater (car not truck, water not air)

Why not just get a good old fashioned mains powered block heater? Little hassle in comparison.

    Is this normal

The relevant regulations for Atex still apply outside of the zoned areas if power supplies and other circuitry for the zoned areas come from outside the area but from the same distribution system. What you have said is like saying you don't need BS7671 or to be registered to replace a consumer...

    Is this normal

Without compex or equivalent you would not be able to demonstrate a competent understanding of the Atex directive and so you wouldn't have a leg to stand on if anything were to go wrong as a result of your work.

    Is this normal

The Atex directive doesn't stipulate anything other than each circuit must be protected by a residual current device, with specifics for circuits within the zoned areas and under the canopy area. BS7671 also applies but the Atex requirements over ride those of BS7671 where applicable. Only a...

    smart meters

I can see a waft of new late for work excuses coming on! "Sorry I'm late, my uniform wasn't dry because the energy company turned my drier off overnight" "Sorry I can't get to work today, my electric car didn't charge because the energy company turned my supply off and I didn't realise" Oh...

Anybody would think the energy suppliers make their money from supplying us with energy. Obviously I'm wrong.

It doesn't look any different than having a consumer unit full of circuit breakers which are in use.

    Creaking MCBs

I've never heard a creaking MCB. Why would you think an RCD would trip if there's no fault though?

    2 switches 1 light confusion

He does say the bridge went from L1 to L1 on the old switches which I am dubious about.

Same way as we would work out which wire is which...testing it out. If not capable then as winston has said ....time for pro.

    2 switches 1 light confusion

Unless of course the live feed to the hallway lighting is coming from the outside light live via the "bridge" wire.

    2 switches 1 light confusion

Sorry I'm thinking my way - separating it out onto the single circuits. It would appear the outside lamp is working fine and so therefore is not part of the problem.

    2 switches 1 light confusion

I can't guarantee this as I'm not there to test but it sounds like on the single switch (assuming this is where the live feed enters the switching circuit) has a wire mixed up between common and L1 or L2. This would create the situation where it has to be in a fixed position in order for the...

    2 switches 1 light confusion

Can you explain what is or isn't working as it was before? The bridge or "link" will need to be wired up if it was wired up before.

    EICR Today

Ok, but the sentiment that you can only observe using C1 to C3 is still incorrect.
