How to fill gaps between skirting and floorboard?

If there is a smell of smoke in the room then under no circumstances would I be using that room for a nursery until the problem is resolved properly. Plugging the gaps and carpeting is NOT a proper solution to this, just because you can't see or smell smoke does not mean that a potentially...

    Moss preventative solution?

I've heard a length of copper wire across the top row of tiles prevents moss regrowing, never tried though..

    Victorian quarry tiles

I think the 6x6 ones would spall as they are essentially like bricks. The smaller ones are ok outside from my experience. I wouldn't bother trying to seal them as moisture could get into them from the underside and still cause damage in a heavy frost.

Laminate underlay options to cover a 14mm 'step' into kitche

Remove your tiles or you will probably regret it. In fact, think carefully about laminate flooring in a kitchen area or you'll probably regret that too.

    shared guttering cut

Deeds of the house probably mention something about maintaining any shared drainage, point out that if damage occurs to your house as a result of overflowing gutters then they could be liable for the cost of righting this. Examples might include re-plastering rooms that get damp, replacing...

    No Plaster behind skirting boards

Attach a length of timber along the gap which is the same depth as the plaster, drill, plug and screw this to the brickwork. Then you can attach you new skirting by just screwing it to this batten, a line of gripfill on the back of the skirting where it will be in contact with the plaster...

    Cellar advice please

If you just want to use the cellar for storage rather than making it into a habitable room then good cross ventilation is the most important thing to sort so it sounds as if you are on the right track. I had a few spalled bricks in mine that I have gradually replaced. If you post a photo...

Wall hung toilet on brick wall

I'm sure you could do something clever like bolt through the wall to a frame the other side for strength or remove a section of wall (with concrete lintel installed above) and then fit the frame into the new gap thus making it flush to the wall but installed using a frame still?

Ceiling Repair – Second Opinion Anyone?

Personally I'd just have had it skimmed if it is stable, a slightly bowed ceiling just adds to the character of these older properties.

    Barginateous IP camera?

Any of the FOSCAM ones will most likely be suitable for your needs. I've got one of these inside and one outside the house and they'd certainly be good enough to identify who it is.

    DAB Clock Radio

I have a Ruark Audio R1 and am constantly amazed by the sound from it and its build quality. Expensive but very highly recommended.

    Mac book pro

Install Firefox or Chrome and see if there is any difference in performance. Is it downloading any significant updates? This could slow down all other traffic into the laptop depending on the bandwidth of your internet connection. The fact that is it running on wifi rather than physically...

    dell laptop CPU upgrade questions

Sorry Aron but any operation that uses virtual memory or reading/writing images to the disk would be significantly quicker. Rendering times would not be improved, we don't really have enough info from the OP to go any further with this. Ubuntu is what it is, I'm not sure you can say it's...

    dell laptop CPU upgrade questions

Personally, I think you would feel more benefit from switching the hard drive to a SSD. It's also less likely to cause you issues with overheating etc. Replacing laptop CPUs is fiddly at best, if you don't get it just right there is the possibility that it could overheat. Also bear in mind...

    Insulation in bay window framework?

I'd put kingspan or similar between the timbers and then tape over the timber with 100mm aluminium tape to provide a vapour barrier, saves messing with any other products.

    Damp patch when raining

What's the betting that water from the guttering splashes on the top of the bin and saturates the wall?

    Reinforcing collapsing wall

There is a hell of a lot of soil behind that, I would seek advice from a pro on this. The thought of all of that falling onto a child after a long period of rain for example would drive me to have it done properly.
