The cylinder sits on a board and the connections are below this. I'm told the cylinder must come out to get to the correct pipework.

Sorry guys, I meant non return valve....not prv. I think the consensus from your answers is to remove the HW cylinder and do the job properly.

I had a completely new S plan pressurised central heating system installed 6 months ago with new rads, pipes and boiler. Ever since it was installed, its suffered from reverse circulation with the upstairs rads getting warm with the HW switched on/CH switched off. The only way to sort this...

Next stage I'm guessing is to buy a new programmer and replace the back plate as well. Wickes are selling the units for £52 which seems OK. Unless someone can suggest something else of course?

Hi, thanks for this. Someone else had suggested this test in an earlier post I made. This time however, its def something with the programmer for the reasons I discussed in my posts above.

Noticed that the plumber has left the securing screws to the underside of the programmer loose. Presumably because it sits above the junction box and you can't really get a screw driver in to tighten them up. Would leaving the programmer face loose on the backplate cause the problem over time?

I tend to agree with you. What confuses me though is the unit works every morning 100% but doesn't come on in the evening like it should despite timings being correct. Also, the system is only 1 year old so you wouldn't think the contacts would be worn. Rebooting seems to cure the problem albeit...

Sounds plausible but why does the unit work for a week or so after taking off and refitting the programmer from the backplate? It maybe due to the fact I'm switching the power off and on again and rebooting it somehow. Is there something inside the programmer which fails or resets on rebooting?

Hi, Should have said, but both the cylinder thermostat and HW zone valve have been checked as good when the HW refused to power up. Everything is wired up correctly and the programmer was identified as the culprit.

Temperature is set to 60C. Just noticed valve has now powered off, lever no longer floppy.

Cylinder thermostat is on side of cylinder. The cylinder has a lengthy warranty which I guess can be used if the thermo is at fault.

Also, the valve motor was replaced by the plumber a while back as he thought that was the problem. It could be 2 dud valves of course....

I have to lock the lever in place at first. Just checked the valve now as the HW is still on and the valve lever is all floppy with the valve open

I'm only a diyer trying to get this problem sorted. The HW comes on as it should in the morning so we're able to get 2 showers which will use most of the tank. The HW never turns on in the evening which means I have to manually switch the HW valve so I'm pretty sure the water isn't hot already...
