Is this breakdown cover too good to be true?

Which is of course about two-thirds of the age of the average GEM member. :giggle: It also provides Good Motoringwhich simply must be the dullest motoring magazine in the history of publication. Note lots of ads for Stannah Stairlifts and haemorrhoid ointment. More seriously, though...

    MX 5 laid up

Where do you arrange the point of contact with the vehicle? Presumably you place a wooden board on top of the said bricks to make contact with the car bodywork at (I am guessing here) the sides of the car?

    Mains Tyre Inflation

Well I was not meaning to be chippy, exactly, but just feel slightly eccentric that I possess such an 'obscure' item. In anycase, my tyres seldom require any boost as the pressures seem to remain pretty constant. I suppose if most folk have access to several vehicles then the auto-inflater makes...

    Mains Tyre Inflation

Sorry if I am missing something here, guys, but am I to believe that I am the only person in the world that still uses a manual footpump?

    New car for learner

Except that he is referring to 50 cars at the dealers with the same problems. 50? At a single dealer? That is not simply a failure of the dealer - this must surely result in a manufacturer's recall & repair and for Kia to have done otherwise would appear to just be sweeping the issue under the...

    New car for learner

Probably best to avoid Kia motors if this is anything to go by.

Brigg Stratton Quantum XM50 smoke and won't rev on lawnmower

Could maybe whip out the sparkplug and give a good clean...perhaps even replace altogether.

    MOT emissions fail.

I am sort of guessing that you are not on George Monbiot's Christmas card list? :giggle:

    Bitten the hybrid bullet!

Presumably the lube is a synthetic type, though cannot see any confirmation of this on the image? Also, does the Yaris Cross have an Atkinson type engine? Thanks.

Forms of transport, what are the alternatives.

This is a rather interesting comparison of diesel off-roaders v an couple of converted Tesla powered Defenders[/url], after a day's mud-plugging in Wales. It is not entirely clear (to me) as to what charge remains in the EV's battery* but it appears remarkable that with this sort of vehicle you...

    Kia - Thoughts Second Hand?

But do they not self-destruct after 60,000 miles?

    Car history.

A bit harsh, Avocet. The BX shape came from the pencil of one Marcello Gandini and he hasn't half designed some cool stuff over the years. My only experience of the model was a mate's GTI version which he had for a few years. Pretty decent performance but I think it was eventually taken by the...

Presumably seduced by the contents of the sump being everlasting.

    Torque wrenches

Whatever, that’s a decent explanation and your method sounds entirely plausible,. In contrast, though, whilst I try to do most maintenance jobs on my motor, wheel-bearings I would tend to leave to the garage. I always feel that the torque loads required here might shake the car of its axle...

    Torque wrenches

Very interesting. This is the sort of thing I print off and nail to my garage wall for future reference. That said, is it not rather a profound pain in the gonads to continually bugger around with metre long bars and various weights etc? Also some of those torque wrenches do look rather smart...

Would this Velcro tape be suitable for fixing mats to carpets?

Thanks, gents...very useful. Will order one of the above. (y)

    Micra K12 boot flappy bit

I think the idea is that if you required to use the hatch space to carry a disposable load some distance when you have dumped the load you have the option of retaining some privacy of the hatch contents. Of course, this presupposes that it may be inconvenient to store the parcel-shelf elsewhere...
