    meter tail protection

Danny Brown isolator feeds a socket in the airing cupboard into which the immerser is plugged as well as having a dbl skt spurred off. The VIR leaving the isolator becomes PVC T&E when it emerges upstairs, wouldn't care to guess what the joint is like. Tails into the main CU are probably...

    meter tail protection

Fair comments, retired architect whose got a bit of a clue about electrics so it wasn't too difficult to persuade him. Considering a fair bit of the installation hasn't been touched in 70 years the leccy replacement piggy bank ought to be reasonably full. Martin

    meter tail protection

Davy.Cooky Yes indeed, was what I had in mind, except I wondered considering the DNO will install an isolator, whether a switch fuse without a switch was an economic and practical option. Martin

    meter tail protection

Hi all Went to see a new job today, bit of a dog's breakfast, see here http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/martin43_2006/IMG_1182.jpg A new board is going in the under stair cupboard and the DNO are going to be asked to upgrade their tails and provide an isolator. It is approx 5m to...

    insulation resistance

Wapping's a place in London isn'it, and you surely mean >299MR not<. Seriously nothing wrong with the readings at all, I assume your testing the cabling only? I did some tests recently with a 1552, exactly the same result. regards Martin[/u]

    Insulation resistance

Hi all Something of a fuzzy head this morning, bit too much celebrating after the footie last night. Re the comments, Softus had the answer, bog standard 2.5 T&E. On testers I agree with Paul's comments. When I was researching for a new instrument a couple of months back, including a lot...

    Insulation resistance

Thank you for the kind words Pensdown, for the record a test after replacement of the cable put the formerly faulty CPC-N reading now greater than 299MR, which seems to be the highest the Megger goes to. The errant joiner also apologised for the poor aim and has been left to re-affix the...

    Insulation resistance

Hi Pensdown Securespark & JohnD Thanks for your thoughts, decided last night that I would have to investigate, it is a new install, my conscience wouldn't let it lie although it met the 7671 requirements. Anyway got the joiner to remove the facings and a lot of gyproc screws later discovered...

    Insulation resistance

Securespark Nothing connected, it's purely the piece of cable, I've also done a continuity check to prove so. Martin

    Insulation resistance

Hi guys A quick querie if you'll indulge me, testing a ring final today and had a reading of 16M between N-CPC on a spur, everything else was well above 300M. Whilst I know this is ok for 7671, would you change the cable? Regards Martin

Weird! Brand new bottle trap won't drain!

Rigid If I'm not mistaken it's an Ideal Standard trap, one of which I installed last year and also wouldn't drain. If you take it apart inside you'll find a clear plastic tube that goes to the bottom of the bottle effectively sealing it. This need to be cut slightly shorter, try 1 cm off it...

    Two showers

Thanks guys, I had thought of a pump as a possibility. The architect had originally specified showers needing a minimum of 1 bar dynamic pressure, uhmm no chance so I suggested the Mira Excel which as stated will work on 0.1 bar. Do you think a 22mm surrey flange will run both showers at once...

    Two showers

Hi all On the current job I've to install two thermo mixer showers. Cold is no problem but I'm a bit stumped re hot supply from cylinder. I can fit a surrey flange and then tee in 22 to each shower reducing to 15 at the valve. There will only be about 0.2 bar pressure. Will this work or has...

    Cooker and Electric Hob...

Hi Dom Fraid so, youll need 10mm sq. Did you actually mean 42A? Have you fitted a cooker control unit, which you will need. Not good practice, better to connect the hob to the CCU and fit a FCU for the oven. What are the current demands individually for the oven and hob? regards Martin

    Good workmanship

As usual RF has got it on the nail. Unfortunately my cupboard key went on holiday and I couldn't persuade the snipe noses to work so I haven't actually seen the meter cupboard (calumny heaped upon me), but I suspect a 100A cutout, pretty normal in Scotland in recent years. There is evidence of...
