The photo may be deceiving but there is about a meter ish of rafter that leaves the wall plate before meeting the joists and there is only the 150 mm thickness of the joists before the roofing membrane.

Actually my next question was going to be could I use mineral wool between the joists. I would have to use PIR board for the rafters wall plate to ceiling height but I guess I could do wool above joists.
