How deep are the services buried in my garden?

A lot safer to dig and set in concrete. If you were really unlucky and damaged a fiber optic cable you could get an enormous bill.. Most modern houses tend to have a 1.8-2 metre service strip but you would be aware when you bought the house, They are usually denoted by a break at 2 meters on...

Sleeper retaining wall and fence help

You could use a box shutter to save concrete, allow a good 18" square and then backfill. the problem with filling is the ground is nothing like digging a hole in virgin ground. Lean mix would be cheap , 10:1 mix with ballast. so its a case of making sure its ok in a good wind. .

Can you use bricks or wood to frame open porch step instead of concrete?

You could do it with block paving or slabs and use a block kerb for the edging. or brick and tile, avoid wood though unless its a hardwood step on its own.

    Paving on top of DPC

As long as surface water can get to wherever it needs to go then I can't see a problem in the water sense, though you may need a grit bed and open grit jointing to allow water to travel. 80m2 of standard paving will weigh around 8-10 ton plus the bedding material which will add another 4-6 ton...

    Patio level with DPC

That's when you use big bi- folding doors and glass. Different to what your asking. Do what you want it's your property. I'm only advising from a contractor point of view. I wouldn't do what your asking for a customer unless they asked in writing.

150mm isnt critical you can go a bit higher but 125mm should be max and then a small step ect. The base won't be very thick . If the base is a standard 4x3 m you will struggle to get a fall. I know it's a pain removing the base but its going to cause more trouble keeping it. Another option may...

Block paving drive weeds keep coming

You need to weed kill then re-sand. Unfortunately most people pressure wash and only do half the job. The over use of a washer on the joints washes out the bedding sand so you then get sinkage.. Eventually you need the paving relaying.
