    Diagnosing possible toilet leak?

Yes it does have these bolts and I was a little worried about them but they didn't seem to be leaking and any drips off them would not get to the place where I found water

    Diagnosing possible toilet leak?

It's not the Flexi, it couldn't really get from the Flexi to the place where I found the water But yes I will lay some tissue

    Diagnosing possible toilet leak?

Yeah you're right, not sure what I was thinking But yes I put the paper under the pan, and it was a little wet on one side

    Diagnosing possible toilet leak?

I cut some thin strips of paper the width of the grout lines and slipped them under the toilet, and they did get a tiny bit wet, but only a bit. So it must be very minor, but that would suggest the water is inside, meaning probably not he pan connector? Probably the doughnut

    Diagnosing possible toilet leak?

Thanks, yeah it's hard to see how the pan connector could be on any better I forgot about the doughnut, of course it may well be that. I did it hand tight, and really hand tight! Should I have gone tighter? The nuts didn't seem suitable for a spanner really The doughnut compressed a lot so I...

    Diagnosing possible toilet leak?

I plumbed my toilet a few days ago and everything appeared to be fine. No leaks, everything seems to work. Today I was wiping the floor and found just a little bit of water around the base of the back of the toilet, see photo. First I thought it could be the pan connector, but it's fitted...

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

The company I'm going with just take off the soil pipe and re fix it if its on already that is. Yeah I guess it could be a nightmare making any big changes after its done, I didnt ask them about things like moving holes in the wall. I'm sure its possible

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

I'm actually getting external wall insulation, as in Bristol there is a rule that once you remove 25% of your existing render you have to increase the U value of the walls. So I don't have a choice if I go much further! With EWI they can just go over the top of it all anyway

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

Yeah I've learnt my lesson buying cheap, it's not worth it. But I'm not sure I can justify and ads right now for this one job. I might end up trying with a chisel and hammer!

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

yeah fair enough. But it would still be one extra joint than if I can get the straight pipe. But it may be what I have to do, I'll see tomorrow

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

I probably could do that! But its a lot of joints, so if I can get it out with one straight piece, even if it means widening the hole in the wall a bit, its probably better

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

Yeah I'll offer it up and see. I did have to chip out a bit at an earlier stage and it wasn't easy with chisel and hammer. It's a brick wall, two layers of bricks! But it might have to be done

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

I emailed Mcalpine back to say the person on the phone said it can't be used vertically but by email he said it could be, what was the answer? He sent back this very confusing and weird sentence :) Made me laugh ''Whilst we do not specifically state that the WC-CONQ should be fitted vertically...

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

Yes I just went to my local shop who are very helpful. They said just use this one I dont know why I didnt buy that in the first place, its less than half the price of the space saving one. It might fit without having to widen the hole in the wall, but we'll see. At least its less likely to block!

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

Well I just got an email back from Mcalpine as I emailed them first and then decided to call! It says the space saving one can be sued horizontally! They don't seem very clear on the issue :)

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

Yeah the soil pipe from the toilet will have to go sideways and down to reach the stack. That's how it was before. Otherwise it would go directly over my kitchen window!

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

I spoke to Mcalpine technical staff, he confirmed the space saving pan connector can't be used horizontally because of the 'question mark' shape. But he said it should be ok to use this or this They are Flexis, but it may be my easiest option? He said the jubilee clip one can be cut in various...

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

When I bought this pan connector I'm certain it said it could be used horizontally, but I just called Mcalpine and they said in the catalogue it says vertical only! Frustrating, although I guess with that bend it makes sense. Do you think a Flexi will work here? As you can see from the photo it...

    Toilet and soil pipe confusion...

Yeah my plumber advised me against flexes if it was possible avoid them. And luckily this pan connector appears to line up pretty well. The fall seems about right too
