    Major heating issue please help..

You could try closing all the rad valves on the ground floor and see then if the hot water gets upstairs. I assume all valves on the upstairs rads are open? Are the upstairs rads cold at the top and bottom?

I can't get any sleep! - Radiator gurgling and crackling.

Hi all, Just an update on the situation here as promised... After putting in the Sentinel x800 there was no change Friday night/Sat morning. So yesterday I took the advice to hit the radiator(!). Did this a few times throughout the day and again before going to bed. The last hitting didn't...

I can't get any sleep! - Radiator gurgling and crackling.

Good idea. I'll let it work in the system for a few days and then work around one rad at a time as you suggest (starting with the top floor ones first and then the ground floor ones) and see how it goes. Is it worth draining the boiler heat exchanger too? I was thinking of doing that too...

I can't get any sleep! - Radiator gurgling and crackling.

HI John, With the X800 in now I have all lockshields fully open as per the product instructions. I will let this circulate over the weekend and drain out on the warmest day next week....Hopefully that will be above freezing! Agreed. There is one on the cold water tank but not on the F&E tank...

I can't get any sleep! - Radiator gurgling and crackling.

F&E tank bailed out and cleaned, refilled with fresh water. Lid always fitted. I have tried. Opening them by 1/4 to 3/4 turn (they are 5 turn L/Ss). I could build a device to attach digital sensors to each pipe and could then monitor the temp in and out on a screen or laptop. Would that be...

I can't get any sleep! - Radiator gurgling and crackling.

Hi all, Last resort here. Please bear with me as I will try and provide as much info as I can at the start! I have a 18 year old Y-plan vented system with potterton suprima, 13 rads (6 down and 7 up) and indirect coil water heating. Pump is Grundfoss (max speed III), mid position from Drayton...

    Toilet and Sink drain problem........

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my problem. With the very cold weather I decided to leave it until it gets warmer to rod the sewers out. I can't work out why it only affected the one room when all others were OK, but then, I don't profess to know anything about underground...

    Toilet trouble ! ..........

Hi all, This house is 15 years old and this week the cloakroom sink has been draining slowly. Then, the cloakroom toilet started to fill up when flushed and drain slowly. I did everything I could to remove a blockage with little success. Next to the toilet is a wooden 'enclosure'...

    Pump replacement advice please.

Thanks for the thoughts so far. Nothing found on youtube searching for 'cleaning the can' or heating pump clean. If possible can you post a link to at least one of the ones you are referring to please? I have also just noticed runmarks on the pipe from the underside of the pump union...

    Pump replacement advice please.

Hi all, I have a 15 year old Grundfoss Selectric 15-50 130 pump that's just starting to rattle and I think it's on the way out. What would be a good low energy choice to replace it with? I can't go to exoticly priced ones, but up to about £85-£100. The system is open type with...

Bad Drayton mid position valve? - No CH !!!!

I eventually linked white to orange and all seems to be working again for now. Heat goes to everything with valve locked in m/p, but that's better than nothing! ;-) Thanks for the help, with the cold weather this week it'll be a relief! Hope to have parts to fix m/p valve soon...

Bad Drayton mid position valve? - No CH !!!!

Thank you so much for the replies. So is it White to Orange or Grey to Orange? I think White, but you guys seem to disagree! ;-) I can only seem to get the mpv into HW or mid. It is currently locked in mid. Will this be OK? Cheers! Andrew

Bad Drayton mid position valve? - No CH !!!!

I woke up last week to the sockets not working in the house, reset the rcd and all was fine......for 2 days. Then it happened again. This time I traced a burning smell to the airing cupboard. It was coming from the 3 port mid position valve (a drayton 670H340-30L0). Inside the valve...
