Cement-stabilised soil instead of type 1?

Is cement-stabilised soil an adequate sub-base for a patio? I'm thinking of digging the soil (quite heavy clay) to a depth of 100mm, thoroughly mixing with 20mm cement, compacting & watering. This would then have the bedding layer directly on top and then the paving slabs.

    Volume of a 25kg bag

Obviously that would be a useless figure because you can't measure that on site without specialist equipment But seeing as sand compacts to (say) 80% after the first pass then doesn't compact much more than that without obviously over compacting, it'd be safe for manufacturer's to list a 'volume...

    Volume of a 25kg bag

So add the relevant ones.. I don't need to know what volume multifinish is when compacted, but I would do for type 1..

    Volume of a 25kg bag

I can't understand why they wouldn't just print it on the bags. It's a standard bag size and they know the product that's going in it. Good idea to infer it from the bulk bags. Not exactly precise but a decent way approximate. Screwfix, B&Q, Wickes, usually online so I look at the...

Oh, so it's not just the calculator?

    Volume of a 25kg bag

Ah I didn't realise you needed a calculator. Okay, now I've got one of those - what are the figures I need? Are they on the back of the calculator? Are they on the back of the bag? You said all I needed was the calculator... don't tell me I also need some figures from a man off the internet who...

    Volume of a 25kg bag

Why isn't the volume just printed on each bag? Why do we have to rely on anecdotal figures from people on internet forums? Not that I don't appreciate the help, but I'd rather hear it from the manufacturer

    Volume of a 25kg bag

Where did you get that volume to weight figure?

    Volume of a 25kg bag

Just losing my mind at this a bit.. Why don't any of the 25kg materials of bags have the volume on them? Be it gravel, sand, ballast, cement, etc Surely that's the most basic info you need to work out how much you need to buy, but they give you the weight instead which is mostly useless Am I...

Finding a dimmer that doesn't cause buzzing lights

This is the one I've got currently which is described as having auto leading / trailing edge mode https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-1-gang-2-way-led-dimmer-switch-white/273cc Maybe I'll give Varilight a go, reviews seem to be better Truly maddening that something as common as dimmable downlights...

Finding a dimmer that doesn't cause buzzing lights

I've fitted new downlights in a room with the intention of switching them with a simple dimmer The lights are Bell 3.2w GU10s x 6 so ~19w total I've tried two dimmer switches now: The first was from Eurolite and I didn't realise until it arrived that it had a minimum load that was too high...

    Preparing bone-dry bonding for skim

Had to patch a few low areas on a wall with bonding coat, which has now dried out completely (noob mistake) and sucks all the moisture out of the multifinish coat. What's the best way to prepare this for skimming: neat PVA or diluted, if so at what ratio?

What is this component connecting four CH pipes?

Either mine's plumbed wrong, that diagram is wrong, or I've got a different model, because the cold feed and flow are the other way around on mine..

What is this component connecting four CH pipes?

Trying to understand my current installation before I make some minor changes. There is a component, sort of like a plumbing junction box, which connects four pipes. Could anyone tell me what this is? In the labelled picture attached: 1: Flow from boiler 2: Onto pump, mid-position valve & rest...

    LABC being uncooperative

That was certainly my first port of call, but to be honest I must have rang 30 local, registered electricians, and except for one they all either didn't pick up, didn't do domestic work, or weren't available any time soon. The one that did come out was talking about thousands and thousands of...

    LABC being uncooperative

Fellas, for the sake of preserving an otherwise fruitful thread, please can we leave it and not devolve into semantic arguments.. I will be doing testing before, during, and on completion, but I'm not likely to have access to fully-calibrated, fully-capable testing equipment.. The LABC would...

    LABC being uncooperative

Think you're getting confused... I haven't heard from the LABC since I started the thread.. don't blame you - we have wondered a bit! I didn't consider second hand, will have a look around..

    LABC being uncooperative

The LABC will do a full test, but I wouldn't want to pay their inspection fee just for them to come and and find the polarity is wrong on a circuit or something, so I'll be testing what I can myself.
