    LABC being uncooperative

I definitely do care - it's my house and I want the circuits to stay on once I turn them on.. I will be doing testing throughout, and will probably invest a few hundred quid into testing equipment, but something like a multi-function tester would be an unjustifiable expense for me. That will...

    LABC being uncooperative

Yes 3.8 and 3.9 are the sections that informed me when I initially started this thread. In plain English it states A) you have to notify the LABC before work begins B) the LABC (or their contractor) will do I&T during & after the works. I'm inferring from your other replies that you don't think...

    LABC being uncooperative

Well whilst they can't reject work beforehand, they do have a right (an obligation, actually) to inspect it during & afterwards and issue enforcement notices if they don't think it's compliant, so they do have some oversight. I assume they didn't have that ability before 2005, because it wasn't...

    LABC being uncooperative

For what it's worth, the existing CU does already have a 30mA RCD They do... but electrical work is mysteriously absent: https://www.gedling.gov.uk/media/gedlingboroughcouncil/documents/planningbuildingcontrol/BC%20Fees%20April%202023.pdf

My sympathy for them is also ZERO.

    LABC being uncooperative

I believe this could be tested with a decent multimeter? I've got a TN-S system for what it's worth

    LABC being uncooperative

Thanks.. I thought BS7671 covered testing procedures which included the dead & live tests you've mentioned? I don't know how much sympathy I can muster for my LABC... not only are they simply lying about my right to do this work, but they usually contract out the I&T, and they don't need to do...

    LABC being uncooperative

Yep, it's completely paradoxical.. makes me doubly certain that the LABC officer I've spoken to either hasn't read Part P, doesn't understand it, or just wants to keep his seat warm.. I think the only BS7671 test I'll be unable to do is the 'insulation resistance' test, though I'm happy to...

    LABC being uncooperative

Guess I'll fit the CU the night before! I do understand your point, and I plan to test throughout with what equipment I have, though I don't have anything like a Megger so I'll be somewhat dependent on the LABC. That said I'd wager that there are well in excess of a million homes in this country...

    LABC being uncooperative

If my interpretation of part P is correct, the LABC will do a test according to BS7671, so it should be very much useable if they sign it off.

    LABC being uncooperative

Please would you quote the section of Approved Document Part P which states that, when using the LABC rather than a Competent Person or Third Party Certification scheme, the installer must inspect and test their installation? I'll save you the time: there isn't one. Yes, I could install a dodgy...

    LABC being uncooperative

John, thanks very much for the thorough response and finally bringing some sense into this thread. I've been scouting the internet for WEEKS and the number of very confident sounding people who don't seem to have even read part P is astounding. Also, if you're the same J.W. as on YouTube, I'm...

    LABC being uncooperative

No clue - that's what I was trying to find out when I contacted them!!! Gosh this is an exasperating discussion...

    LABC being uncooperative

Seeing as how competency (whatever that means to you) has no bearing on the legal right to do this work, and the LABC will be the one testing it, neither of your points are relevant... Again, please correct me if you've got something more solid than the black-and-white of part P..

    LABC being uncooperative

I'm not making an application (aka a 'full plans application'), I'm making a notification which, to my knowledge, are two different things. There is no 'approval' process for a notification. Happy to be corrected but please point me to something concrete like a government document.. CU is...

    LABC being uncooperative

You sound just like them :ROFLMAO: They do not get to "sanction" me, I notify them and they come out to inspect it. They aren't the council - they don't get to approve or reject notifications. Unless you can point me to the section of Part P I'm missing, because I've read it a dozen times..?

    LABC being uncooperative

Hi all, Looking to do some notifiable work in my house, namely moving some sockets around and extending a ring main, adding a couple new circuits for the loft and the garden, and replacing the aged consumer unit. I feel this is within my competency and I'll be buying a copy of BS7671 to aid me...
