GAS ENGINEER REFUSES TO REMOVE old BOILER

It's your property, not his. Unless his quotation stated that he would remove it from your premises he has neither the right nor any obligation to take it. He does come over as a bit of jobsworth, though; he could easily douse it in water, remove and bag up any suspected asbestos panels or...

    Part 1/2 float valve

Never came across a Part One that wasn't ancient.. edit: by plumbing standards, I guess, not geological. A mesozoic ballcock would upset the world of archeology...

    Pipes in covered alleyway

Yes, what the heck is the longer copper pipe? Gas, condensate (!!!!) or unvented D2? At least the installer seems to have taken some care with the flue termination.

Identify Hot water cylinder please (Ed.)

No, fire could be used, subject to the above. The fire will then just have an extra lump of metal behind it, albeit a hollowed out one with a bit of residual water in it. So long as it is not hermetically sealed no problem with heating it to 400C or whatever a coal fire achieves. You might want...

Identify Hot water cylinder please (Ed.)

Forget using the fire to heat water. Drain the back boiler. You can leave it in place but if so do not seal the pipework- leave open ends. Otherwise you would be building a pressure cooker. Fit a direct cylinder with immersion element(s), set up to use mainly off-peak electricity. You could...

    Cast Iron Cistern weeping

Not heard of "waterweld" but recommend CT1 or Fernox LSX for this kind of bodge. Clean surfaces well first!

Adjacent cylinder makes no sense to me: how would the heated water find its way into the loop?

    Solid fuel heating nightmare

You need a HETAS engineer with the relevant "wet" plumbing qualification. Mucking about with extra valves on the F&R of a solid fuel boiler is seriously inadvisable.

    Plumbing fitting for electric shower?

As above, 15mm compression elbow onto shower inlet spigot. These jobs are never like for like; some modification of pipework/cabling position is always required IME.

    Unvented HW Cylinder

15 litres is the UK maximum size. Above that requires installation with the full unvented safety group, discharge pipe and expansion vessel, and should only be undertaken by a G3 qualified engineer...

Mono block kitchen sink mixer back nut

I have a vague memory that these came with a tool for fitting (which will have been chucked away or lost). If pump pliers won't reach in situ then in the worst case remove sink from worktop to get access. Admittedly a pain in the artefact.

Can I have an electric shower and toilet on same feed from CWS tank?

Nomenclature; 7.5-10.8kw on mains water = electric shower Intergral pump on gravity feeds with weedy cable = power shower
