    Conduit?

Hi all, How easy is it for a DIYer to install conduit? Either PCV or flexible? Putting up an outside light and toying with this as a neater finish.

Security light on FCU, is this really necessary?

Thanks John. You and @SUNRAY have suitably convinced me - I’m not keen on doing unnecessary electrical work.

Security light on FCU, is this really necessary?

Thanks SUNRAY. I’ll replace if and when it fails, otherwise I’ll focus on just sorting out replacement of the light itself.

Security light on FCU, is this really necessary?

I think we should all stop this discussion now as we’re getting nowhere. My question has been answered I COULD replace the FCU with an isolator switch, but it may not be necessary to do so. End of story.

Security light on FCU, is this really necessary?

I realised that earlier @Murdochcat asked if I was 100% certain that this FCU was not connected to the socket circuit. I actually wasn’t 100% certain as I’d always remembered it being connected to the lighting circuit (since moving into the house in 2023). So I just went out to the garage...

Security light on FCU, is this really necessary?

So what would that mean for me then?

Security light on FCU, is this really necessary?

Thanks @SUNRAY. I may just leave it and replace it when it needs replacing instead of doing it just for the sake of it.

Security light on FCU, is this really necessary?

Mainly because when I replace the light I’m replacing some of the cable in the garage too. I’m planning to bring the cable through the wall instead of its current route.

Security light on FCU, is this really necessary?

    That’s my thinking.

Security light on FCU, is this really necessary?

Allow me to clarify - I’m not planning to remove CU, just planning to replace the FCU with an isolator switch.

Security light on FCU, is this really necessary?

Thanks for your input. I am thinking the same about the CU being unnecessary - but then like I said the previous owners were quite elderly and may not have known what was necessary/required. I’m going to look into replacing with just an appliance isolation switch.

Security light on FCU, is this really necessary?

I have a non-working PIR light above our garage which I’m planning to replace (see my other posts about this). The light itself is wired into one of these (fused connection unit): That’s turned off at the moment as the light doesn’t work. The wire coming out the front (which is in the wrong...

Which roller and frame brand gets your vote ?

I’m with @blup - Harris. I’m not a professional decorator but we recently got our new kitchen in and I decided to paint it myself rather than try to hire a decorator (kitchen fitter didn’t have one on his team of contractors). Bought a “kit” of Harris brushes and rollers from Screwfix and was...

What have you had for dinner

Yeah we discovered it a few months ago. Check your local branch - if they have it you should definitely give this a go!

What have you had for dinner

Cooked it from scratch. It’s very simple - two carrots, a couple of parsnips (or sweet potato if you don’t have parsnips), an onion, two crushed garlic cloves, a couple of big sticks of celery, 650ml beef stock, 125ml red wine, four sprigs of fresh rosemary and 1.2kg veal (we use Osso Buco from...

What have you had for dinner

I made a very nice vegetable soup this evening. We had slow cooked veal casserole at lunchtime so didn’t fancy a big meal. I just raided the crisper drawer of the fridge for leftover vegetables - four carrots, some celery, a sweet potato, some regular potatoes and an onion. Once cooked I used a...

I like a nice bit of salmon with vegetables! Do you pan fry, poach or grill?

    The joke thread.

A horse walks into a bar, and the bartender says “Would you like a pint?” The horse says “I think not!” and disappears. Of course, for this joke to make sense you need to be familiar with the French philosopher René Descartes, who said “I think therefore I am”. The horse thought not, and...

What have you had for dinner

Looks nice - although I’m not huge fan of mushrooms so I’d probably pick them out! (I know, I’m a heathen!)
