Modulating Gas Boiler and Smart Thermostat

I think one needed to reduce how many times the boiler is switched off, but to use modulating thermostats, not sure if they save enough to be worth the hassle? I have a few thermostats in parallel, so the boiler only turns off when no rooms need heating, and the TRV heads are analogue so most...

How to do washing using off-peak?

It does not matter what I think, SWMBO wants to use the liquid soap, and years of using power soap which stays in lumps, so ends up in the rinse water as well as the wash water I can see her point about trying to ensure all soap power is removed before rinsing starts. As you point out a new...

size of battery needed for my solar panel

They do, not sure if I like the idea, and we no longer pay for the app. But my wife's Jaguar XE so about the smallest of the Jaguar range, could be started from the app, to warm up the car before you went out to it, but there was a warning it should not be used when parked on the public highway...

Do you feel sorry for ripped-off customer?

The flat rarely used in winter still has mechanical TRV heads, all fed from a motorised valve, so can turn the whole flat off. The main house has 10 programmable TRV heads, so every room has its own sequence, even with a 14 room house, the 20 kW boiler is twice the size required.

Do you feel sorry for ripped-off customer?

So I have heard it said many times, but my 18 kW boiler was too big for many shower heads, and I struggled to find one big enough. It is the lowest output which matters, my living room needs less than 3 kW, most other rooms a lot less, just enough to stop anything freezing, so the whole house...

Drayton Wiser two channel replace of RWB9 Siemans Controller

Looked as if connecting 1 to earth which is why I questioned it.

Drayton Wiser two channel replace of RWB9 Siemans Controller

It seems there is a change, in the main terminals 1 and 2 are not used. This however seems to show 1 and 2 is off the same as Wiser and Hive, so seems you have read the diagram wrong? And they are the same, it is the earth wire which seems wrong, can't work out why ever put there?

Do you feel sorry for ripped-off customer?

Yes, I feel sorry for ripped off customers, most it seems connected to government grants in some way. Be it solar panels, heat pumps, loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, the list goes on, and it seems to attract the substandard tradesman as people getting something for nothing or very...

Wiring smart stat to Viessman Vitodens 050

I have never had the option of using OpenTherm, and I don't have a clue as to if links need removing or not, but would look for a post where the reply makes it clear they know you're using OpenTherm. When he replied, we did not know for sure you were using OpenTherm, I have quoted answer, so...

size of battery needed for my solar panel

Since not finished December, yet that is incomplete, but it gives a good idea of solar production for a 6 kW array. ⁣ the best December day so far, ⁣ the best June day, this time of year the battery and off-peak are the main gain, the solar does very little, we are considering a third battery...

size of battery needed for my solar panel

That does seem to vary with vehicles, my hybrid is so called as it can go on a road or in the field, all e-bikes require one to pedal, but is seems one does not need to have a direct link of pedals to wheels, but with other vehicles it means twin engined one electric and the other carbon based...

Wiring smart stat to Viessman Vitodens 050

Since both boiler and controller can use OpenTherm I am assuming that is the method being used, but could use on/off as well.

How to do washing using off-peak?

My oil is lasting a lot better after I stopped using it to heat DHW in the summer, can't stop it heating DHW in the winter, I use around 12 kWh per day, so working with this £130.73 actually last month, for electric, down to £83.61 if I take the solar off, so the off-peak is saving me money...

Wiring smart stat to Viessman Vitodens 050

It does show the connections, ⁣⁣but says so not sure if any links need removing. Hopefully someone who has worked with OpenTherm will turn up, personally even as an electrician I would not be fitting a new OpenTherm thermostat in the winter, that's a summer job, when there is time to correct any...

How to do washing using off-peak?

In summer, hardly matters, costs 8.5p/kWh at night, and we lose export payment of 15p/kWh in the day, but winter 30.51p/kWh in the day is quite a bit more than the 8.5p/kWh at night. November my bill was £61 and a bit, summer the bill is in the minus, not a massive bill, but don't want to spend...

    Dishwasher killing computer

I do wonder about surge protection and RF filters, I remember going to collage and learning how to fit suppressors to a car to stop interference on a car radio, I fitted bits of braid, capacitors, chokes etc, and still the car radio crackled, then an old guy said maybe it's the radio, try this...

How to do washing using off-peak?

The washing machine has a delay start timer, as does the tumble drier and dishwasher, the tumble drier and washing machine, both tumble the clothes every so often while waiting for the start time, this is not a problem with the tumble drier, but with the washing machine, it means the soap in the...

    Bathroom heater

There are strict rules for bathrooms, it is a special location, so the "Can I" is in real term's no, the cost of registering the work will be too high, in Wales £100 plus vat, not sure of fees in England, so in real terms cheaper to get a scheme member electrician to do the work.

In the late 50's early 60's the caravan holiday was cheap, and people got a caravan to have a cheap holiday, so there was a big DIY part of maintaining the caravan. Today it is no longer a cheap holiday, unless hiring a caravan already sited, either way, very little DIY except those who started...

    Cordless vacuum

I have had various hand held cordless vacuum cleaners, great for the stairs, but for anything else, all been hopeless, when the government restricted the power for vacuum cleaners, it doubled the time to clean, but we have found as long as one does not need to spend time behind the vacuum...
