    Doorbell

If bell push to 1 and 2 the transformer would need to go 0F to 1, and a link 2 to T3. With a transformer, the voltage is 8 volts AC, and with batteries voltage 6 volts DC, the coil has a higher impedance with AC to its resistance with DC, so higher voltage, there is no way you can have a...

2 kWh battery pack, is it permitted, is it safe, and is it worthwhile.

This 2 kWh battery pack has been shown on eFIXX, It is expensive, but it is also portable, it seems it can export 800 watt to the grid, but I know my home only has a bidirectional RCBO on one of my 14 RCBO's so only the sockets in my shed could be used. As to G98 etc, well if one already has...

    Doorbell

The 0F and T3 is the coil for the bell, and the 1 and 2 when batteries are fitted go to the bell push. If batteries are not used, and it uses a transformer instead, the 1 and 2 are handy terminals to join wires.

Replacing Drayton LP241 with Drayton Wiser - Combi Boiler

Picking a random glowworm boiler, I see there is an ebus option. As to if worthwhile, I don't know, I think there are conversion modules, so could use OpenTherm, but I have noted many boilers are far too large for the radiators they supply, need around double the radiators size to boiler fitted...

    Opentherm

Yes, oil, but the gas boilers in old house, only one modulated, fitted before the Comb-boiler came out so one boiler for CH and one for DHW. Late mother's house had a modulating boiler, and yes it did work, set the TRV to the temperature required, and the radiators would keep warm, in the...

Using Wiser Smart Heating - seems limited

@MeldrewsMate has a good idea, the TP-Link (Tapo) smart switch uses a battery to power it, so does not need a neutral or any current flowing, so does not matter if 12 volts or 230 volts, it will still switch it, and it has the dusk and dawn setting. My living room auto turns on lights 45...

Damp-proof membrane for shed: How should it be edged?

My shed is on plastic pallets, how long it will last I don't know, but at least any water can drain away, I question why a concrete base? Inside my shed, there is a wooden floor, which for storing things is fine, but to bolt a lathe to the floor I can see a problem.

    RCD tripping

I would guess a neutral to earth fault. Since the neutral is often not switched, it is a get the meter out time. Without an insulation tester, you're going to have a hard time finding it.

    Boiler sizing query?

This is what I was finding, however, I realised the boiler was turning off prematurely. Even harder to find if boiler turning down rather than off. My house is D and D, 150 m² and 44 m² for some reason they have issued two certificates one for main house other for flat under main house, 1 point...

Drayton wiser kit 2 please help

Other end of the white wire this 5 core seems to be both supply to boiler and control for boiler, in theory one should not mix extra low voltage and low voltage cores in the same cable, so it is very likely low voltage, but need to confirm it is low voltage. Note low voltage international...

Drayton wiser kit 2 please help

No, as step one is finding out if low voltage or extra low voltage control. If extra low voltage then can't combine supply and control, one is 230 VAC and the other, like 24 volts, could be DC. If all low voltage (230 VAC) then one may be able to combine, but it depends on protection, combining...

Smart thermostat installation sticking point [images]

I also found the hubs for the thermostats tight, so I used a wiring centre between them so only a single wire into each terminal, and also had a problem with ferrules, the pliers for them were too shiny and someone decided they wanted them, only replaced this year from Lidi, at last again I...

Drayton wiser kit 2 please help

The Wiser kit 2 seems to refer to what is in the kit, not how wired, there are three wiring diagrams, seems you need the One Channel version, can you confirm that is the version you have? The Salus thermostat, likely brown is line, blue is neutral and gray (com) goes to one on single channel...

Size, solar, inverter, battery, what is the sweet point?

I have 6 kW solar, 5 kW inverter, and 6.4 kWh battery, and I use around 12 kWh per day. I have an Octopus EV supply tariff, 8.5p/kWh 00:30 to 05:30 rest of time 30.51p/kWh and had the solar just over 2 years, since moving to Octopus get paid 15p/kWh for export and standing charge 68.34p per day...

Replacing my old flash immermat timer to a hive thermostat - H & HW V4 with hive nano hub

Thank you, @Rodders53 my tank I have now put on more lagging and summer this was typical, can't turn the DHW off when oil boiler running (C Plan) so this time of year I do use oil. We use a direct electric shower, and rarely use the bath, think one in 5 years we have been here, the washing...

Problems with Hive - radiators not heating

In general, there are two ways to zone central heating. One to use zone valves, as one would have done before the days of the modulating boiler, which gain the latent heat from the flue gases, and two in the main far better idea, is to use the TRV (thermostatic radiator valve) with electronic...

There seems to be an identical post here I have answered the other post.

Replacing my old flash immermat timer to a hive thermostat - H & HW V4 with hive nano hub

Yes. I had assumed part of the switch. I would question using oil to heat DHW in the summer. Likewise, I was using oil to do this, and it had no thermostat on the cistern, so I set it to run ½ hour per day, in fact only ran for 20 minutes, so a 20 kW boiler so 20 x 20/60 x 7 = 46 kWh per week...

Gas main earth bonding has been removed

There is a problem if a current is passed through a gas pipe, causing it to melt, so any earth connected to a gas pipe needs to be at the correct side of the insulating block/pipe so with a loss of PEN excessive current will not run through the gas pipe. We see reports of metal theft being...

Replacing my old flash immermat timer to a hive thermostat - H & HW V4 with hive nano hub

The timer only does one function, no idea if domestic hot water (DHW) or central heating (CH), but you can't get both when only wired for one. I also use an oil boiler, and although mine can heat DHW only by not running the pump, we never use it to only heat DHW, with an off-peak electric...
