Best primer emulsion or blocker over shiney , patterned paper ?

Customer has a 30 year old faux metal laminated wallpaper She wants to paint over it with a mid sheen sort of emulsion .....its also multi coloured ....its needs blocking and bonding in my opinion I have suggested maybe johnstones stain away or something similar to give it a good base and...

    Painting Exterior Walls in Winter

I would jetwash it on a light setting if it starts to build up Depending on where you live and the build up of " green " that could be every other spring ? But I wouldn't spray it with anything at all Pliolite should look good for at least ten years

Best Way to Paint these doors

If quick drying isn't needed I think polycell stain block , zinser cover stain or even wickes stain blocking undercoat , all very slightly thinned , make better primers over stained , varnished or shiney surfaces I agree that bin red is a good product but it really is a shocker to apply If...

    Painting Exterior Walls in Winter

No wonder it was a struggle then Thinning out paint for a first coat is usually a good plan especially if it's pliolite as it tends to be like glue And a thinned first coat means generally less of a struggle with following coats

Best Way to Paint these doors

Maybe use the johnstones aqua finish ? , instead of your bog standard water based satinwood And yes a decent undercoat over the Bin, before your two topcoats ...possibly johnstones aqua ....would give a good finish 2 Bin, 2 undercoat, 2 top coat is a pretty good average , I think on the...

Best Way to Paint these doors

I find Bin red very runny It would be great if it were just a touch thicker I find meths or ammonia cleans the brushes well but I keep Bin red brushes just for Bin red jobs Bin blue , water based , is easier to apply but not as good in my opinion I like Crown PX4 , water based but in...

Best Way to Paint these doors

You could try putting on a sacrificial first coat of bin , let that harden off and bind the surface.....then sand off lightly Then proceed with bin x 2 etc etc You will probably get a better finish that way

Redecorating- how to tackle dark painted skirting and picture rails?

For white gloss or satin finish ? That's a big colour change so it's going to take a few coats but excessive sanding unless it's rough or using a heat gun isn't necessary ....and very time consuming I would give them a cleaning with a foam yellow and green kitchen pad your mum uses ....one...

How to paint White primed Lincoln doors?

OK well berger is good paint ....if you are going to use a gloss non drip .....same sort of thickness and consistency as one coat gloss but easy to apply then I would get a leyland trade undercoat ....oil based .....then your gloss It should be fine

How to paint White primed Lincoln doors?

My view is ...a one coat paint ....be it gloss , satin or emulsion ......is still going to be better off if it's got an undercoat beneath it .....even if the one coat paint is amazing ....which they never are Yes its one coat .....but self undercoating ? I think that's nonsense I worked for...

How to paint White primed Lincoln doors?

No , once is not going to give you a good finish Once , solo , self undercoating gloss , etc .....are a bit of a con trick in my opinion Even if these paints are ever used its always good practice to undercoat first But I wouldn't use them , follow the sort of advice on here

Help! Painted water based over eggshell! What to do?

I would let it harden off for a couple of days then to cover your back ... give it a light rub with a cloth soaked in white spirit or meths or a light rub with the green , slightly rough side of a kitchen sponge used for doing the dishes .....this can be wetted with either white spirit or fairy...

Painting over DIY Kitchens 2K PU finish - I messed up

Those sponges that your mum or nan uses to do the dishes ....sponge one side , green soft scrub the other side ....those with a bit of fairy liquid and few drops of water .....just buff over the surface .....clean off with clean sponge That's the key they need Then your chosen primer on top...

Painting over DIY Kitchens 2K PU finish - I messed up

Good adhesion primer such as PX4 , PX3 from crown , Bedec All Prime, Dulux Grip I think a light pressured rub with a soft synthetic moulding abrasive pad will be better than any sort of sanding abrasive ....too much pressure and you will scratch the surface and leave lines that may not be...
