Hole in cast iron pipe for condensate pipe

Hi Rob , I'll bow to your experience in this one ... I've had quite a few dealings with cast iron and wielding however I never mix the two ... That said black Smith's are a dying trade and what they can do with metals is nothing less than amazing ! I probably don't use this approach because...

Hole in cast iron pipe for condensate pipe

Mad rab What I’m on about is welding it the high carbon content would not allow it to be welded with a tig or mig welder , that’s why when it’s made it in a cast .Obviously you can cut it out joints in and out mechanical fixings on as I mentioned however you have the risk of cracking cast iron...

Hole in cast iron pipe for condensate pipe

He is right cast iron can’t be repaired you would cut it at floor level add an adapter then replace the soi pipe with a modern material. If the hole isn’t too big you could get a mechanical boss strap and a blanking plug.

    Stopcock Replacement

Sounds like you mean an iso valve? That’s the wrong valve for the wrong job. If the other main water valve isn’t leaking and is open leave it and remove the handle , then if there is space put a new stopcock just above it. You would need to turn the water off on the street first. Best wishes Jake

Gaz I’ve just replied on your other thread I thought you meant when you flush it was leaking externally , on those symphonies the seal Is internally that it passes , the old days you had an over flow now the overflow is the syphon … the easiest way for a diy is to get the same syphon if still...

    Replace geberic washer??

Gaz, The last pic is an iso valve … the flat screw should be pointing vertically if you turn it horizontally it cuts off the water supply. Inside the iso there will Be a fibre 1/2 washer I’d suggest replacing this when re fitting the toilet … the iso valve will disconnect from the cistern at...

Mad I was thinking the same as you from the 80’s for a make do shower ! I just can’t help but feel anything tan connecting it to the main supply would be a bodge, I don’t think I would actually fit it to a tap for any of my customers

New Toilet on different wall to main Stack

Morning Fergus, Yes your spot on, when the pipe is laid in the ground it just needs covering with pea gravel before re filling the hole… in relation to finding the best route for the underground pipes I tend to just roughly lay them out and see what works best. I personally think this Is the...

The fall of the pipe is taken care of mostly under the ground so you don't have to worry about getting the right fall through your floor boards etc...not a good idea to have a soil stack under the floor I'm assuming your old soil stack will be cast iron? Which if it is won't be...

New Toilet on different wall to main Stack

Anyway if it was just a path my tuppenc worth would be to dig a trench lay a new soil pipe under ground connecting to the present one and put it where you want it . Yes a pain having to dig a 45cm trench but a macerator will cost you £500 , they make a awful noise, get blocked and then you need...

New Toilet on different wall to main Stack

Thanks for the pic makes more sense ! Personally sticking a soil pipe along the outside wil not do anything positive for the look of your house ! It looks like there’s a path that goes down the side ? Concrete ?
