Do I need primer before Touprelith F?

Hi guys. A few questions if you don't mind. I've got maybe half a dozen small and very shallow patches (like about a millimetre depth) of bare masonry stone where I've taken off flaking paint. I've bought a box of Touprelith F filler. Can I spread the filler straight onto the masonry or do I...

    How to rejuvenate upvc frames?

Lol@ Comma.:D Sorry chaps, was going to start cleaning the upvc, but actually, since we've had rain I wanted to catch up on the masonry painting preparation so I've just been continuing caulking some gaps around the base of the frames where they meet the stone sills. I might start cleaning the...

    How to rejuvenate upvc frames?

Yes, I gave them all a basic wash down. Hmm, I don't want to remove gloss. I'll try your suggestion first with some car shampoo. If it looks much the same then I'll try the Cif.

    How to rejuvenate upvc frames?

Awesome, thanks. I've got a bottle of Cif cream. My first thought is that Cif is mildly abrasive and might leave light scratching but I guess not or nothing noticeable. Will try that tomorrow!

    How to rejuvenate upvc frames?

I've washed down and sanded the old paint on all the masonry fascias, window sills and upright masonry posts around my front upvc windows and will be filling some cracks in the sill and then painting the masonry with white Sandtex. The white upvc window frames are 8 years old and looking a bit...

    Repainting window masonry

Well I washed down the masonry and started sanding it today. I've now got a box of Touprelith F to fill cracks. Was wondering if I can use the Touprelith to fill shallow holes in the paint like this? I've sanded away the looser bits of paint from that and what's left seems firm enough.

    Blown plaster on kitchen

Thanks Benny. The thought of rising damp depresses me, lol. I'd much rather it was some other cause. And from what you're saying, particularly that rising damp wouldn't climb up a corner bead, it sounds like there's a chance it's not rising damp. Yeah, I don't know if they drilled the bricks...

    Blown plaster on kitchen

Thanks. If you suspect the bricks to be dry, are you implying that it's not water coming through the bricks from outside, and therefore it's rising damp? The builder at the time told me they'd put a waterproof PVA solution into the render (or bricks I'm not sure which). So I'd need to...

    Repainting window masonry

It seems I don't even have to sand the old paint? (Apart from any flaked off bits) https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/painted-masonry-prep-to-sand-or-not.339043/

    Blown plaster on kitchen

Sure. Just taken some shots of the inside wall either side of the door to the patio, and some shots of the outside of the same wall either side of the door. It's really just the edge area of the inside wall on the left of the door and a little further in on the other side.

    Blown plaster on kitchen

Hi guys. I better give some background first. My house is an old edwardian era terraced and there's always been a bit of a damp problem in the kitchen along only one of the two exterior walls. In 1987 when I bought it I had a DPC installed which didn't really seem to be much good. I had the...

    Repainting window masonry

Great, thanks. I've only got a roll of Oakey 80 grit, will that be ok and do I have to go nuts with the sanding or will sanding pretty quickly over the surfaces be sufficient to allow new paint to adhere? Was thinking of buying ready mix filler but I think the powder stuff will store for...

    Repainting window masonry

Hi guys. I'm thinking of repainting all the vertical stone frame and the sills. It was last painted by professionals in 2016 I think. Can I get away with sanding over the paint just to key it and then repainting with the ultra smooth Sandtex masonry paint I have? Otherwise it's going to take a...

    Which pointing style to use?

Yeah, I was thinking that too. Hammer and chisel would take a month of Sundays.

    Which pointing style to use?

Actually, I've taken a look at the front of my house and most of it has weatherstruck. The wall I was thinking about repointing though is a dwarf wall that I paid some amateur to do for me many moons ago, like in the 1980s. He made a mess of the pointing on my side of the wall but did it ok...

Yeah great. I'm a beginner, keep that in mind. How about trying to answer my question?

    Which pointing style to use?

Ah, a plugging chisel. I bought a half inch cold chisel yesterday, should do the job yes? I also bought a plastering trowel but am using it as a float for holding mortar and holding against the wall to reduce excess falling everywhere. So bucket handle pointing it is. I'll buy a brick...
