Help me identify these bushes please

Hi again Decided to go for the nuclear option. The problem is the intruder seems to have already formed a wide and hard root. It’s also adjacent to the hypericum roots, so don’t want to damage those. How would you proceed from here? Thanjs

Hi (Thanks for previous help with plants for border-on the case with that) We’ve had two bushes on t’other side of garden for years. Never done any maintenance. (explaining why one is now too close to conservatory) You will also see the stem of another bush protruding from the bush on the...

    Weed infested flower bed

Hi Topsy turvy indeed. Your last paragraph reflects the challenge. Short answer-not really sure, but like to go for something that will provide coverage, colour and require limited maintenance. I also see the virtue of spuds to clear the soil. Thanks

Didn’t mention our massive slug problem. Priority has been stopping them getting into kitchen and conservatory, but guess toms would attract them? Thanks

    Weed infested flower bed

Thanks again. Noted re treatment of stubborn weeds. I have Weedol. Is that comparable to Glyphosate? Re the non mulched area- are you just recommending hoeing/weedkiller to prepare for bedding plants? Back of bed-should have said this problem exacerbated by next door being empty for years.

    Weed infested flower bed

Just followed your advice re mulch from cut grass. Obviously not optimum height or coverage. How would you treat remainder of bed? I notice the hoe not removing all root systems. Do I have to do a second sweep? Thank you again.

    Weed infested flower bed

Many thanks. Have tried compost and horse manure without much success. No compost heap unfortunately. Have just cut front and back lawns, but doubt whether enough for a 4-6” covering?

    Weed infested flower bed

Really appreciate the helpful and clear advice. I’ll admit I never inherited my old man’s green fingers, but my head just explodes with talk of hardy annuals, perennials..

    Weed infested flower bed

Thanks all. Nothing growing there now, but had various bedding plants there until last year. I (think) I gave up as they were supposed to be hardy annuals but not the case.

    Weed infested flower bed

Hi I’ve physically dug out weeds in this flower bed many times. Have also drenched with weed killer, Weedol etc. They always come back with a vengeance. Any suggestions/steps would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
