How to reset ECU on VW Golf Mrk3?

I always disconnect both battery leads, black first then red. Short the leads together (while off battery with a short bit of 2.5mm cable and turn the lights on, and it does cure the ECU Faults, along with the airbag computer faults, light faults, locking faults, heating faults etc etc etc...

should cops pay be back dated

The police aren't on a bad whack as it is, i haven't got the figures to hand, but a newly qualified PC gets more than a teacher and a load more than a nurse, that imbalance annoys me more than this poxy £200. I can understand the annoyance, as a deal is a deal. Wondering what the outcome of this...

What should a 14 y.o. have in their bedroom?

I always think about it this way. 32" TV with computer/ipod/mobile phone or...........................hormonal 14/15 year old boy. Does that make it any easier??

    wind farms

Nuclear is the way forward for the moment, and all this posturing by the green party is doing nothing to help public understanding. Keep hearing long island/chernobyl/etc. etc. thrown about but the safe guards now in place, the technological advancement that has occured mean repeat happenings...

    replacing head gasket

Yeah it's about right, taking in to account all fluid replacements, time to remove, probably replacing timing belt. Head may or may not need skimming. Leak testing. That's assuming there is nothing else wrong in the head, could be valve damage etc etc. Wouldn't expect a head gasket going...

Replacing Water With Anti Freeze Escort

No problem Don't automatically assume the coolant temp sensor is screwed, if there is still air in the system this can cause the coolant temp to not register anything, i would have a go at making sure the system is filled correctly before writing it off.

    TV Aerials

Sorry John not to question what you are seeing, but it's definitely ghosting??? The only problem i have seen with a digital picture is the old jigsaw effect where it drops certain portions of the picture, ghosting in a digital system i would suspect will be down to noise/cross talk within the...

Replacing Water With Anti Freeze Escort

I'm not familiar with the cooling system in an escort, but usually there is a system of bleeding air off somewhere in there. Sometimes it will be a bleed screw in the thermostat housing, sometimes the thermostat itself will have a jiggle pin (forget the tech term) which should sit at the top and...

    TV Aerials

Any group A antenna will get you a picture, but having said that you can get a picture with a few tie wraps, some bodge tape and some welding rod but i wouldn't recommend it, great when you're in the middle of nowhere in a bloody tent though. Right as to type, that really depends on how...

    help ! neff oven electrics...........

I wouldn't like to say no and i wouldn't like to say yes. Take it that is max load, in which case you are looking at 12.7 Amps at a nominal 220V. Which i would call a bit too close for comfort. Assuming perfect connection then you would get away with it, but introduction of any resistance...

If 70mph is the top speed on our roads....

You don't want it, best i get is 28mpg, and i have the baby class V8, the 12's get about the same fuel economy, but that's due to switching down to a straight 6 when cruising. Around town and short journeys i get around 19 wether i am booting it or not.

Is it all going a bit too far???

The MOD introduced a system around the beginning of gulf war 1, called just in time supplying. It's failed because suppliers aren't prepared to hold stockpiles of equipment with a possibility it may or may not be required, it's bad business in anyones eyes, i was one of those guys who turned...

    freeview box

Don't know your model of tv, but not all scart sockets are created equal. Some will be fully populated to RGB some will only have Composite, depending on how the devices plugged into it are configured depends on how your picture will look. Good AV Cables are generally fully RGB populated...

    TV Aerials

Reflections from directly behind the aerial are unlikley, they are designed out using the big plate (reflector) at the rear which is sized to the correct wavelength for the signals being recieved. It focuses them back on to the important portion of the array. If you are replacing your...

    freeview box

Usually digi/sky/cable boxes have a choice of s-video or RGB outputs. For the best picture clarity/sharpness/colour always use the RGB and use an RGB scart, they physically feel thicker than one which is only partially (s-video) populated, and also make sure you are connecting it to an RGB...
