So John what do you mean, do I take the red wires from L1 leave them not connected then see if the lights are on?

If I made a mistake in the wiring wouldn't it trip the trip switch. I have connected the transformer and to the ceiling electrics exactly as it was previously, :? could it be the transformer????

ok should I change the red wires back to the original position, would that be safer :?

moved it over to L1 and HEY presto down is on :D :D :D :D :D :D :D so should it all be safe as it still doesn't solve why it reversed

On the first photo the closest switch the first lot of wires is to the living room .... and the far side is to the landing

on the transformer picture, on the left ( first lot of screws) is the wiring from the light itself, blue on the left brown on the right. The second lot of screws is the wire from the transformer to the wires in the ceiling, again blue on the left brown on the right
