Continuing second storey brickwork after part first storey complete

Could you not just wedge something underneath to hold the brick in place and then when the next course is laid it will hold the back of the brick down and it won't tilt into the cavity and you can remove the wedge. Perhaps a small piece of galvanised metal sticking out from under the brick on...

    First attempt at pipe bending...

A proper pipe bender is only £40, takes some of the chance out of the operation. https://www.screwfix.com/p/heavydutypipebender/18255

Help lifting beams through loft hatch

I think I would be looking to build a little platform under the hatch, lift the beam up onto the platform, and then on into the loft from there. Better than trying to do all the lift in one go.

    Forbes ranks the UK

Looks like the BBC decided to just not report this story as I cannot find it anywhere on their site. Sky did though, but they had to add the 'despite brexit' tag. "An annual ranking has declared the UK to be the best country for business next year, despite uncertainty over Brexit." -...

There are 15 examples from the BBC on that link I gave, somebody else did the searching I just used their list to save me time. Here's 83 examples from the Guardian...

DIY replacement of electrics in kitchen, sanity check & questions

You'll get used to it. Just don't ask them what rating of fuse you should use....... that one could go on for a long time.

Is Dulux Trade paint total rubbish?

I'll admit to being another fan of Valspar. Their V700 range (which they used to call 'trade') covers superbly (could get away with a single coat a lot of the time, if desired and of course if applied with care), has very good opacity, thins well for cutting in and flows well when that's done...

    Insulation under tiles

What about some Dukkaboard. That should tick all your boxes. I used it under the tiles for my kitchen floor and I have used it more than once when tiling the walls in a bathroom. http://www.dukkaboard.com/products/original-panel/

    Screwfix trade-UK account

Went to a Screwfix branch yesterday and as usual it said 'pull' on the inside of the door. Ignored that and pushed it anyway........... turns out the doors do go both ways. Perhaps I shouldn't always do as I'm told like my mother said. And I'm definitely not another corbynista anarchist, I...

    Building Regs and Kitchen Extension

The grid switches are the only thing on that circuit (the sockets are on a seperate ring) and the CU is just the other side of the wall so only short runs of cable and both cables are the same length.

    Building Regs and Kitchen Extension

When I built the kitchen in my new extension I placed a socket behind each of the appliances. These then had their cables run back to a single point and connected to grid switches. By wiring the grid switches input feeds in a loop I could create a dedicated 'appliance ring'. This gives a central...

    Screwfix trade-UK account

On the subject of Screwfix. At all the Screwfix branches I use you have to push the doors to get in, but then when you want to leave with your arms full of stuff you need to get a hand free to pull the door to open it. Would be so much easier if the doors where the other way round then you could...

removing bricks for airbricks ain't easy

For cutting out individual bricks I use one of these on an angle grinder to remove all the mortar around the brick and then it just drops out. Just don't force it and let the tool do the work, letting it cool down every few minutes, or you'll snap it and it gets expensive to keep replacing it...

    Moles..

Land mines for moles........ I've seen everything now. I use the NoMol traps and have had a good deal of success with them. They aren't particularly cheap, but they get the job done. I have placed them in a field used for exercising dogs at a kennels I do work for and as these remain...
