Is it protected by an RCD? :P

    fibre optics

Fibre is fairly specialised. Not only will you need media converters, switches with fibre ports or fibre NICs at each end, you will also need to ensure that the connectors and patch leads match throughout. I'll guarantee it'll get expensive for a small one-off job. As BAS suggested, you can...

Security: Should I ditch Norton for Virgin Media

Kapersky is a good anti-virus client. Other free ones that I'd recommend are: AVG Antivir (Avira) Comodo Avast! So, save yourself some money and ditch the Norton :)

    Not necessarily.

I should get a refund then. 512kb/s is as good as it gets for me.

    Mum. Whay can't I get a job?

Freedom of expression? A person is entitled to do whatever they want with their body - it is their body after all. Not that I don't think the more extreme versions aren't utter muppets - but it is their right.

    cash for gold

No idea. Hopefully something that spreads the wealth around a bit more fairly than the present system.

    cash for gold

No it hasn't. It can probably be traced back to the 8th century or thereabouts and even then it wasn't by any means the dominant system. There have been a number of different economic models since humankind first decided to trade something for something else. In any case, the current...

    cash for gold

Two words for that. Emergent and Economies. 100 years time I reckon there will be a different economic model.

    cash for gold

Maybe, but apply a little thought to today's world. It's a lot different ;)
  14. T

    cash for gold

Yup, but it's ultimately doomed. Given the rate of population and economic growth, coupled with the additional demand on resources that implies, it can't be that long now really.

    WINDOWS 7

Haha I remember when they used to give OS/2 Warp away for free. It was a good OS though, very resilient. Woolworths used to use OS/2 with IBM Lan Manager on a token ring topology for its EPOS system. Very robust but somewhat dated.

    cash for gold

Capitalism isn't sustainable in the long term whether you let institutions/businesses go bust or not. As an economic model it requires continuous growth and you cannot have that with finite resources. Whatever it turns out to be, we are going to have to have a new economic model at some...

is underfloor heating really worth it?

Show me the evidence for this - by evidence, I mean from a published, peer reviewed scientific source. I've seen the data from several sources and the GMST is rising. You may see short term falls in the data as you will with any data with sufficient granularity but the overall trend is up.

Who mentioned fascism and communism? All I said was that capitalism isn't a sustainable model.

    Old Wylex Fuse Board

Do remember that if you remove the protective covers there will be supply voltages present that are only protected by the main fuse which could be rated as high as 100A. Ensure you switch off at the main switch and be aware that the incoming supply to that switch will still be present.
