Difference in heat loss by U value

Of course the real question is whether the insulation will pay for itself, which you might do based on how long the building will last or how long you will live there. Who knows what energy prices and the climate will do in that time. Also is the room full of bifold doors and what is the floor...

    Flat roof joists size

Technically as soon as you cut a graded joist lengthways you have to regrade it.

    Recommend loft hatch catch?

I had exactly the same dilemma 5 years ago and have been very happy with this (although make your own mind up about the appearance) https://www.google.com/search?q=fanlight+catch

Issues with IWI on a single wall?

You can insulate selectively but it means there will be less wall that's cold, meaning any humidity in the air has a smaller area to condense in, meaning you're more likely to get mould on the remaining area. I think for me it would depend if the uninsulated wall is north facing, but it's a...

Internal block walls in relation to ceiling plasterboard.

might help with airtightness to keep the ceiling plasterboard continuous, then you've only got the perimeter of the house to leak.

    Building a Large Shed

Looks like about 35 pounds a square metre from a quick Google for the cladding planks itself, add in fixings trims and ancillaries

    Building a Large Shed

yes you need to handle snow load as it can be as much as the dead load. dead load is just the total of the weights of the materials. I saw a video on youtube from a chartered SE who suggested breaking up the span with a flitch beam. This will save on timber and improve headroom, at the cost of...

Best Grinder Blades For Paving Slabs

agree with the above, and the narrower the better, wider blades are really slow on my similarly cheap angle grinder. Regarding cutting in half you can cut from one side and then tap it over a batten to snap the rest of the way if you can cope with a rough edge.

accurate depth adjustment of circular saw

Hi all, hope you had a good easter. I have one of the basic makita 18v circular saws (dss610 I think) and I find the depth adjustment a pain. I know they're not really for detail work but if I want to do (say) an accurate 12mm deep cut for a joint I have to fiddle about testing on an offcut...

That's what "may" means. Is everything ok your side? My posts are made in good faith I'm not trying to pick a fight or something with you?

    Ridge beam

My advice would be don't buy unless it's either suitable for you, or you plan to make it so. I think the cheapest compliant repairs would be to reinstate the doors between the house and conservatory and remove the heating, but if you want an extension I would recommend getting the investigations...

    Ridge beam

It is but my point was not clear at all, it was that the covering makes a difference.

    Ridge beam

I think it's safe to say it doesn't meet building regs overall. I'd be more worried about the foundations than the roof though. If you want an extension it may be more economical to knock down and rebuild.

What is the roof covering? If it's concrete tiles the answer will be different from zinc sheets.

    Roof leak advice

Flashing I would have thought 75mm up the chimney would be ok if there's a reasonable pitch on the roof, but others will know more.

    Roof leak advice

The aav, some of them are only rated for indoors due to the risk of freezing. Some are ok outside the heated part of the house You'd have to check the spec. Either way the drain system needs to be adequately vented, which ideally means an open vent for each property. If not you can get issues...

    Principal elevation help

Freddie has answered but there's not enough information to be 100% sure and front door is not always on the front, but I can see bay windows on the left. Which side is the road? Principal elevation is usually clear cut, but sometimes it can be less clear.

Do i need planning permission for outbuilding

Yes you will need planning permission, 8 weeks and a few hundred pounds needed. They can refuse based on planning policy, there are a few things in general terms such as appearance, massing/bulk, and also more particular things which would be in the local plan. No such thing as precedent in...
