Not very happy with the NIC

About 3 weeks ago I passed my DISQ assessment & I was told 2 weeks after my assessment I'd be registered. Been phoning every day for the last week to see if I had been put onto their system. I was being told that they hadnt received the assesors report so I had to ask them to keep chasing it...

    Which tools ?

Just thinking about buying some more tools. Heard a few people talking about a Fein Multimaster. Is it "nice to have" or definately worth buying ? Also, do you reckon cordless or 110V for domestic work ? Has anyone got a list of essential sparks tools which I could think about getting...

    Well, I've done it.........

Passed my NIC assessment. I know you long term sparks out there frown upon it but I did a DISQ course in Feb 07 & then did my 2 assessment jobs & basically read the OSG & BS7671 (& a couple of others) cover to cover for the past 8 months. Did a couple of other jobs in the meantime to get my...

New edition of the Regs question

What about if you go to a job (relating to the bathroom) & there is no Supp bonding present ? Do you just carry out the supp bonding ? I assume this means for new builds or re-wires.

    Measuring earth electrode resistance

To measure the earth electrode resistance is it a case of doing a Ze test as normal ? Is the limit 21 ohms according to NIC ? I dont understand the calc as per bottom p78 OSG "For TT systems, the value of the earth electrode resistance Ra in ohms multiplied by the opertaing current in amps of...

    EEBADS, Garage.

RCD keeps tripping out - running out of ideas!!!

Heres a suggestion from my limited knowledge. 8) I had an RCD which kept tripping intermittantly. Tried unplugging things but it still kept tripping & then someone on here suggested testing directly onto the RCD on the load side with nothing connected to it, which revealed an RCD fault...

    2 electric showers

Just stopped in to look at a job on the way home & the customer had already run cables for 2 electric showers. Obviously running x2 10.5kW showers with a 100A main fuse is not a good idea, but I think I remember seeing on here some sort of device that will only let one shower run at a time.

Replaced pump & actuator but pump keeps running

Its a Potterton boiler. I'm not at the house at the moment. On the hot water side of things, when you set the thermostat on the side of the tank at say 60degs the boiler will run & the pump will pump hot water into the tank until it reaches 60. For the central heating the boiler will run &...

Replaced pump & actuator but pump keeps running

Ill get some pics & post on here. The house was built about 10 yrs ago so its not really an old system. It might not be a combi but it definately fires up when it needs to heat the water for the tank & for the central heating. I'm assuming the pump should run when you need to draw hot water...

    Outside light spurred off socket

Yeah, I was concerned aswell & mentioned it to the customer. There is no fusing down & it is 1.5 t&e & on the RCD side. Customer didnt want anything done about it so I left it. Just filling out the cert & thought I would put a comment in that I advised some sort of FCU be fitted. Do you think...
