why are you taking the sealed case off a gas appliance?? get a gri into check it as leaving the cover loose could allow co to come into the room. the flue sounds like it could be faulty and allowing gasses back into the air intake not something that should be advised for a housholder to check.

Some will issue a cd11 fill in the cd10 supplied with boiler and self cert if the install is ok and then go on to service the boiler for years after if asked.

you can take it out and clean it with a descaler eg kettle descaler. if you look at the boiler you have two screws what hold the unit and it pulls away sealed with orings dont forget to drain first :wink:

Was the guy competent thats the most important question as these boilers do need setting up on site to site conditions using a pressure gauge,smoke gun fire valve fitted as the above boiler is very expensive and can soot up very quick,you can look on the oftec site to get an approved fitter...
