    Log cabin permitted development

That 4m ridge only applies if it is more than 2m from any boundaries. If you are building closer to the boundary than 2m then you'll be limited to 2.5m max height.

    electronics

I do it a bit for my day job but still enjoy a bit of arduino tinkering at the weekend. It allows for quite practical projects. I've recently added a servo drive with digital control to my lathe, also built a bat detector. Its good for home automation too.

    electronics

Might be worth having a look at Arduino if you are reasonably computer literate. It'll give scope for a lot more complex and interesting projects. Might be harder to get into but there is a load of support available online. You can also get loads of compatible plug in modules like relays...

    Site hoarding

Can you find some second hand? I get mine from a place near Bath. Its £6 per 8x4 board and a couple of quid for 2x4 rails. Comes with a few nails which is a minor pain but also cones pre painted. Usually battleship grey but the last batch I had was blue and white.

    Outbuilding, refurb or replace?

I'd definitely refurbish. Less waste and less new materials. What you have sounds pretty decent and if its been there a while it probably isn't going anywhere. Adding to it should be less work than starting again.

very very small 12V DC- mains inverters wanted

What powers the mixer? If it already uses a lower voltage power supply then swap that for a DC-DC convertor. You can get universal laptop supplies that have a wide range of voltages and connectors.

    Garage Self Build

One other thing. Looks like the garage on the right over sails your boundary then drops its rainwater. This isn't really allowed but I suspect there is little you can do about now. You will however have to think about how your building will abut this and deal with the rainwater. You don't want...

    Garage Self Build

That's what I did, except I haven't sold it as I keep starting new projects. Easily paid for itself. Worked out great. In fact I've bought a few tools which have proved very useful. Didn't hire much at all. Mine was under 30m2 so didn't need building regs. No plumbing. Just the electrics which...

    Garage Self Build

Mine cost about £3k. Its a bit smaller at 4m x 7m. That was doing everything myself. Using a mix of materials including from eBay, freecycle and Gumtree. Eg £40 for the garage doors, £10 for the pedestrian door, £10 for a lintel. It was approximately £1k for the base and foundations, £1k for the...

    Garage Self Build

Planning should be pretty straight forward. The only aspect that needs planning is the height of the roof and 4m isn't crazy, especially if others in the row are that height. As mentioned it will need building regs for the structure as it is over 30m2. The electrics and plumbing will also need...

    Planning Permission - Garden structure

Planning would technically be needed. It is still an outbuilding, and if you took the building bit away there are still rules about decking. Whether it would be enforced is another matter. Your call if you want to risk it, I think I would unless I had particularly grumpy neighbours.

    Rebuilding old garage. Planning permission?

That is my understanding. Not sure if it is true but it makes sense (legally, not practically). You can do repairs like for like without any permission so rebuilding one wall is fine. If you knock it all down there is no building there, just a site of a historic one. That should make planning...

    Rebuilding old garage. Planning permission?

Its all in the link above but here is a slightly easier to read list: https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/43/outbuildings As you already have a building you can rebuild it without any permission but my understanding is that you would have to do it one wall at a time...

Help reqd to connect TV to installed sockets

I'd start by trying to work out what wire goes where. Do you have a multimeter and an assistant?

Cordless ratchets/impact wrenches - which brands?

I often use my 1/4" hex Makita impact driver with an adapter (either 1/2 or 3/8}.. Works well on wheel nuts. Crack them with a breaker then spin them off with the impact. Much cheaper than the 1/2" socket driver (don't think I've ever seen a 3/8" but you can get adapters) Not as much torque but...

Is a scrap sink worth anything?

Put it on Facebook marketplace or Gumtree. Someone will want it and likely pay more than scrap value.

    New TV Dilemma

You can check a remote control is functional by looking at the led with the camera on a mobile phone. If they have a smart phone they can do a quick test.

    Makita Drill Keeps Sticking

Just squirt it in. It's much better than 3 in 1 for this. It'll penetrate better and with oil based lube you risk swelling anything plastic (only a tiny bit but that obviously won't help in this case) and it'll eventually pick up dirt and form a gummy mess. Silicone spray should just put a very...

    Makita Drill Keeps Sticking

Yeah, the bodies are so cheap it's probably not worth fixing yours. Shame as it does seem wasteful but probably makes sense. I'd try the silicone spray first, but after that maybe go for the new body. This sort of thing (useful for all sorts of jobs, too)...

Problem with Makita 18v Cordless drill

For shops FFX are pretty good (although a very quick google has them at £42) or PowerToolWorld. Plenty on ebay at £30. That'll likely be the most basic model. Its not a big leap to the brushless model at around £70 which is quite a bit better
