    Air Source Heat Pumps…

I have a 50 foot garden and I was told it was too small for me to consider ground source and I needed over 3 times the area of my house. It was also extremely expensive. Given the modest efficiency over Air Source, I chose not to go that route. Edit:- TBH I can't see many situations in the UK...

    Air Source Heat Pumps…

If I had gas, I would not change, it is undoubtedly more expensive to replace a gas boiler with an ASHP but the grant does take some of the pain away!

    Air Source Heat Pumps…

That's rather a variable answer because the initial heating stage is either COP 5.00 at 7 degrees external (or 2.74 at -7 degrees) but then reduces to 3.32 once the water is at 55 degrees with 7 degrees external (2.30 at - 7 degrees) and then at over 65 degrees it drops to 2.90 (7 degrees...

    Air Source Heat Pumps…

I would agree that I would not rip out a gas system to replace with an Air Source one, however I don't think you know quite how good the newer units are, I live in a village that has no mains gas and oil or Calor Gas are either no convenient for many or there is no space in some of the cottages...

    Air Source Heat Pumps…

Mine is a Hitachi yutaki s80 but, If I'm honest, it is overkill and I only had it turned up to 80 degrees for a short while. The rads and the water were too hot for my liking. I'm not sure if any other manufacturers make a similar system? The downside to it is that it has an indoor unit, about...

    Air Source Heat Pumps…

Yes it does, however most systems are scheduled to boost the cylinder temperature, once a week, to a high temperature, to prevent legionaries. The temperature above what the heat pump can produce is carried out by the immersion heater. Edit, my system does not require the immersion to do this...

    Air Source Heat Pumps…

A decent ASHP is a pretty good bit of kit these days but they always get a slating on forums such as this. I have a "hot" 80 degree ASHP in my own house and it really is excellent in every way. HOWEVER, I have no access to gas so my switch was from oil heating. If I did have access to gas I...

2014 ''efficient'' tax exempt Insignia ''eco'' flex getting 35-40 mpg. listed as 63-88 mpg .

The Freelander TD4 has the same EGR valve as the BMW M47/M57. The EGR valve itself is directly on the intake of the plastic manifold. However many Freelanders do not have an EGR cooler so all that is there is just a metal pipe going to the exhaust manifold. The plastic part in the video is just a...

2014 ''efficient'' tax exempt Insignia ''eco'' flex getting 35-40 mpg. listed as 63-88 mpg .

The M47 is very prone to running over cool due to the EGR thermostat not closing fully assuming it is an E60/61 or E90, I even did a video of how to change it many years back...

These are both F10 (5 Series) and F30 clusters and both are oil temperature gauges. I can only assume yours must be an optional spec model, digital dash or similar? I know that my F30 (320d with B47 engine) reaches about 80 degrees coolant temperature (using Carly OBD) before the oil temp on the...

2014 ''efficient'' tax exempt Insignia ''eco'' flex getting 35-40 mpg. listed as 63-88 mpg .

If your BMW is one of the "F" models, the gauge will be an oil temperature gauge not coolant. Oil temperature takes far longer to increase than coolant so I suspect it will get up to temperature before the gauge indicates. I have no idea why BMW chose to do this, but there is a small legend on...

2014 ''efficient'' tax exempt Insignia ''eco'' flex getting 35-40 mpg. listed as 63-88 mpg .

One of the biggest killers of fuel consumption on a diesel engine is a thermostat that allows the engine to run too cool. The gauge is not a good indicator for this as it shows a "feel good" reading, normally in the middle. I would run the car from cold with an OBD diag tool plugged in and see...

Dual or triple glazing for air source heating

I would just make sure you choose a brand name 50 degrees centigrade system. I fell into the trap of believing all the horror stories and choose to way over-spec my system both in size and temperature, I should have saved my money. Mine was an 80 degree system and it is much hotter than I...
