Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

Yeah, I'm going to talk to an electrician in 3 weeks or so time, and see how he advises that I run this.

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

Yeah, sorry, I just wrote what it's marketed as. Not a clue what the actual ethernet speed capabilities of it are, though.

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

Wanted to go for cat6 for really fast internal transfers and future proofing for when our area is cabled by Virgin Media or upgraded to FTTP by BT. The CCA cable is no good for running through the attic or under the floor as it fractures way too easily, and that's going to be a pain as I don't...

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

Not sure what to do as almost all of the walls are plaster, not plasterboard, so running cables DOWN from the ATTIC will be impossible? Also, I do not have a drill at all. I was hoping that I'd be able to borrow one to make the few needed holes in the attic, but now that seems this is not...

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

I know that the floorplan for downstairs is exactly the same as upstairs, eg the rooms are the same size with walls in the same place. I will make a floorplan later and post it here.

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

Sadly no existing conduits other than to the aerial and Sky dish outside, so I guess I'd need to make my own path.

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

I'll go have a look and see if anything is going upstairs. The previous owners had a Sky dish and we got an aerial installed, but neither actually have a SOCKET... just a wire into the wall. Give me a moment. You still online?

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

I can still see where the wires are going from the new sockets. They go down behind the skirting board and under the floorboards, so I won't be hitting those. My only concern is that I have a chimney breast and hearth tiles near to where I'd like the socket, so I am concerned that it could...

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

Being under the capping, right? I don't know all the safety stuff, I just know about ethernet cabling and plasterboard really.

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

I took a look at the survey that was filled out when we bought the house. All the walls except the one that divides my mother's room and my brother's room are plaster bonded to brick. Masonry was also mentioned. Moreover, the wall that I want my socket on is the one shown in the picture. I'd...

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

Quite right, the sockets aren't at the same height... Apparently the capping is there purely to allow ease of plastering so it's flat and the plasterer can plaster over it. Is this safe? Perhaps you'd also like to see my "light" right now and tell me if that's safe...? Thanks.

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

The electrician in question is coming back to do other work, and as this wall is being re-plastered, he left the sockets like that for now. Is that correct?

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

I have bought 3 CAT6 dual port face plates, and 3 back boxes for plasterboard. The issue is, the wall which I would like the sockets on in my own room is plaster on top of brick, and no plasterboard. I am getting the room re-plastered soon, but I wanted to do this prior to the plastering as I...

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

So I should not use powerline in the older house?

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

I do have a stud detector, and the positioning of the sockets can be flexible. I have powerline adapters already (NetGear 500Mbps ones), but I just felt like doing this to get a little experience. Thanks for the advice, I will have a chat with the electrician and pay him for the discussion, to...

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

Yeah, I am going to have to get some different cable anyway. I bought some rubbish Copper Clad Aluminium cable :( My idea was to somehow get the cables from the back of the router/switch and put them into the wall, whether that's via a faceplate or patch panel. The cables would then be inside...

Help me out with my re-wiring project? (Ethernet)

So hello, DIYnot. I am 15 years old, and I am new to this website. I have recently become increasingly interested in the world of DIY. My mother bought a house a month or so ago, and it is an old build. We were originally in a modern 2010 build and moved due to a better location, but due to the...
