    Cable confusion.

But before that... found this above the garage, whether it's powering the garage light bulb or not, I dunno. Could have gone up but probably would've had to be rescued by the fire brigade, I'm scared of heights. Electrician coming tomorrow.

    Haha. Exactly! Ringing him now...

    Cable confusion.

It's not working but that could just be the bulb, I'll try and change it. Really hope the yellow box is powering the lead in the garage, I'll have an electrician test it! All of that being said - I forgot to mention that there's a bloody oil burner in the garage for the central heating, no...

    Cable confusion.

Ahh... that would make sense (I'm clueless by the way). Here's a better pic: Appears to be just what you said, the grey wire goes into it, then the earth goes to that little black box, no other wires going to or from the yellow box.

    Cable confusion.

Fuse box doesn't seem to be connected to them, house alarm switched off: Any help greatly appreciated, wouldn't mind some decent power going to the garage, need to run a compressor in there, maybe 30 amp.

    Cable confusion.

I've just bought a house with some wires hanging in the garage, no idea what they are or what they are connected to. Got some pics of them and the fuse box: Cable coming through the wall (thin white one too). End of that cable: Ceiling wires: Freaky things poking out...

Toilet blockage, Soil pipe leaking outside

cheers, I'm soaked through (with rain!) and getting diminishing returns, managed to get the plunger fixture of the rod right up to the bottom of the stack - did nothing. Gave up and showered. The missus' old man is coming tomorrow with his ladders so I'll pass on your advice and watch him get...

Toilet blockage, Soil pipe leaking outside

Still at it. How much crap can one stack hold!? This is bleedin tortuously slow progress. :(

Toilet blockage, Soil pipe leaking outside

Bought some drain rods, first thing I caught? Another drain rod. I tried sticking the plastic pipe in but it won't budge, not sure if I could dislodge it but that would help. Spent a few hours faffing with rod and hose pipe and did move some 'debris' but whilst progress is...

Toilet blockage, Soil pipe leaking outside

Got over my fear of neighbours by going detached, the bungalow is next on my list!

Toilet blockage, Soil pipe leaking outside

Thanks for the offer of advice but I am terrified of heights! Completely out of the question for a DIY job, and yes it does annoy the hell out of me. And my wallet.

Toilet blockage, Soil pipe leaking outside

Yeah I'd like a new soil stack fitted but god knows how much that is going to cost. Plus, with it being asbestos (I think) that is only going to add to the bill. Only just moved in so can't get everything done at once. I've got a karcher here and might try and buy their drain attachment.

Toilet blockage, Soil pipe leaking outside

Thanks. I'm not sure what to do with it, other than carefully push the plastic pipe back in. Phoned a plumber today and he wanted 125 quid just to come out and (I assume) unblock the stack. 'No call out fee 24/7' indeed! Off to b&q to buy some drain rods. Wish me luck...

Toilet blockage, Soil pipe leaking outside

Pics. Definitely not coming through the main drain when flushing so blocked in the stack, as Andy said. Going to try and get rods up there and reattach the plastic pipe.

Toilet blockage, Soil pipe leaking outside

Yeah the manhole is empty but there's a leak. I only have a karcher handy so will have to call out the professionals. Cheers for the help.

Toilet blockage, Soil pipe leaking outside

Only kidding, Andy. But where does the rodding/jetting take place? In the manhole, direction of the big standing pipe? I don't know about the joint, only just moved in, can't see a jubilee clip. I can see some of the nasty old paint from the old pipe has been separated an inch along the...

Toilet blockage, Soil pipe leaking outside

What does that mean? I have a jet washer and am about to spray it down the toilet. Convinced this will work!

Toilet blockage, Soil pipe leaking outside

The plastic pipe coming from our toilet runs horizontally into an old (cast iron?) soil stack. It's peeing water from the connection. THe water is going into next door's drive so I'm reluctant to leave it over the weekend. I only noticed because the toilet wouldn't flush, I managed to...

Shed/workshop - is this worth it?

Cripes. I don't think I'm that strong, Mursal. :? What lifting equipment would I need?

Shed/workshop - is this worth it?

Good points. I suppose I could try knocking him down a few quid and swallow the rest IF it's worth it. Will have to go and take a look, but am not sure what it is I'm looking for! Maybe I should have a chat with a shed supplier first.
